1947 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY By M xncmrr GRIFFIN N September 18 1943 school opened fwhy we ll never knowb and we 141 boys and grrls entered for our first term rn hrgh school Just out of grade school wrth the nk on our drplomas strll damp we proudly but scared, entered the nmtlr glade We were soon labeled green freshmen as not know mg our way around we had to ask the upperclassmen such ques tron as Where rs Mrss Frenchs room or Where can I find 'Vlr Tower5 However we soon learned the ropes and began to feel at home after a few weeks We elected for our class officers Presrdent Randall Storm vrce presrdent, Drckre Drllman secre tary Bobby Srnclarr, treasurer, Bobby Glst reporter, L K Bur Margaret Gnmn cham Our class sponsors were MISSSS Era Nell Brown and Houston Gardner Mrs Wanda Hrbbrtts and Mrs Wrllrs Ward We elected George Boone and Mary Kay Roemer our Ideal Freshmen Our freshman year wasn t too eventful, however, we drd have several of our clas mates n the band and grrls chorus The followrng Sept mber school opened once agarn fstrll don t know whyj and we enrolled a ophomores VVe then felt lrke ole trmers We were allowed member shrp rn the Pep club and had stlll more prrvlleges allowed us We were well represented rn the Chorus and Band Some of the boys went out for basketball Our officers were Presrdent Wade Muncy vlce presrdent Joe Jones secretary, Martha C Kelly treas urer Iaymond Cam, reporter Wanda Carter Our sponsors were Mrsses Houston Gardner and Era Nell Brown Mrs Lura Grlkerson and Mrs Wrllrs Ward Martha Courtney Kelly and Charlre Carter were elected our Ideal Sophomores At last the trme came and we were Jolly Junrors and began to feel sorta m portant We became ofllcers and members of the Grrl Reserve club the Iunror Conser vatron club and Lrbrary club Joe Jones Wade Muncy Jr Charlre Carter, and Strrman Ambrose made the basketball team Harry Br umley was elected cheerleader Our class officers were Iresrdenf, Randall Storm vrce presrdent Margaret Grrffin, secretary, Mrsses Era Nell Brown and Juflrth Rowland and Mrs Wrllrs Ward The Joneses car rred away the Ideal honors as Mrnnre was elected the Ideal Junror Grrl and Joe was elected the Ideal Boy The Junror class sponsored a pre and box supper at the school rn the fall Eve yone ate and ate and had a swell trme The Junror Senlor Prom was the socral hrghlrght of the year We entertarned the 1946 senrors royally at Hotel Owensboro wrth a gala eyenrng of food and fun The Junrorr Class Pl y Red Hot Peppers went over rn a brg way The splendrd cast made rt a huge sucless On Sept mber 3 U46 Rrclrard was there to open the door and we 8 happy klds started our last year at County Hrgh We were at long last senrors We were sorta the black sheep graduating class as we drd not lrve rp to the name drgnrfied As a matter of fact we w ere proud of rt Our class was consrderably smaller than when we enrolled rn hrgh school as ew eral of our member entered the role of matrrmony whrle strll others found work or other rnterests Most of our year s happenrngs are re corded rn thrs yr ar book so I ll not mentron them all agarn We had srx bovs on the has ketball team Wade Muncy Jr Joe Jones Strrman Ambrose Thurman Dawson, Char lre Carter and Wallace Johnson Marv Kay Roemer Helen Best Har ry Brumley, Irm Pfister were elected cheer leaders Our officers were Presrdent Randall Storm vrce presrdent Margaret Grrffin secretary Kenneth Shelton treasurer Joe Jones report er Helen Best Charlre Carter and Helen Best were elected Senlor Ideals Our sponsors were Mrss Elrsabeth Gasser Mrs Ernest Krrk and Mr Jed Walters Frghty three of our class recerved drplomas on graduatron mght May 19 1947 At last the trme has come when we brd goodbye to you at County Hrgh It has been a happy four years and we the gr aduatmg class of 1947 say Thanks for the memory ' ' . 7 . 4 I 7 7 9 v r , V A n , 1 s u nh i . .
