MARGARET ALICE CILNIORE x I 1 hl 1: 3 N 1945 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY 133 HAROLD W urn UR hlstorx be an rn 1941 when we, 114 graduates of elen entary schools, enrolled for our Freshman year at County Hrgh Our sponsors were Misses Ruth Barnhrll Martha Jones Frances Rowland Margery Settle and Mr H S Jackson We promptly realized that we needed ofhcers to represent us so we the Freshman class held our first meeting After a long session filled Wlth enthusiasm we elected the following President Tony Carter, Nice President Jack Claypool Secretary Juanita W ue Trersurer James Ambrose Reporter Harold WVard The next vear 1942 we enrolled for our second year Our sponsors were Misses Irene F ench 'Vlarth-r Jones Frances Rowland and Kathryn Scluoeter We elected the following ohicers President James Ambrose Vice Presldent Betty Sue Taylor to make the basketball team Maurl e Hale made the first team while Wrlllam Krrk Tommy Foster and Charles Harrison made the second team Juanita Ware was elected cheer leader The only socral event of the year was a Sophomore party We enrolled for our Junror year rr September of 1943 Due to the war and a shortage of man power the class had decreased to about half its orlgnal rze, but re eardless of the war I belleve th rt our Junror year was the most successful of them all Our sponsors were Miss Joenelle Mason Mrs E W Richmond, and Mr Norbert Ward VS e elected for our Presrder t Jack Claypool, V1ce President Gene Perch first semester and William Kirk, second semester, Secretary and Treasurer Juanrta Ware, Reporter James Ambrose For the third year ll succession County Hugh went to the State Tournament but we were defeated rn the first game by the team that won the State Champronshlp Our first string consisted of four Junrors Maurlce Hale Wlllldm Kirk Tommy Foster and Tony Carter wmle Hugh fBusterJ Smrth James Ambrose, and Harold Ward were on the second string Dorothy Best and Juanita Ware were our Junior cheer leaders The Junror play Hrs Fathers Son, and the Jun1orSen1or party were the highlights rn the socral field of the year In 1944 we enrolled for our last year at County High Our sponsors were Miss Joenelle Mason and Mrs E YS Rrchmond Our officers were President, Tonv Carter, Vice President Vhllram B Kirk Secretary, Juanita Ware Treasurer Nancy Mc Intyre and Reporter, Shirley Horrell The annual Senior Carnlval at Hallowe en and the Senror class play, Rich For a Day proved to be very successful 'Ihe basketball team which made an enviable record included the following Seniors Maurice, Hale Vhllram B Kirk Tommy Foster Tony Carter, and Harold Ward The banel that had many Senror members, rn sprte of a shortage of musical rn struments and part time instruction, performed well YV1lda Bennett acted as student drrector More of our classmates entered the armed forces and during the year several withdrew from the class leavrng fifty six of us to recelve our drplomas Thursday night May 3 We wlsh to thank the teachers for all they have done for us and may all of you classmates and all who graduate from this school rn the years to come, carry with you the ldeals, and principles whrch this school and this faculty have endeavored to teach vou A lt ul I 'I'ervllr1ie':lI l'S:lr ' 6. - l x ll lep Vlulw '44.
