Initial action in establishing the group was taken by black students, who promptly welcomed all those interested to participate, re- gardless of race. The Inter-racial Council serves as a means for dialogue among people of all races. It seeks to promote understanding and mutual respect among all stu- dents. In affirming the purposes of the Inter-racial Council, members decided that the president and vice-president of the group would come from two different races. Love has been the guiding force in the development of Davidson County Community College, inspiring and directing its growth from technical institute to a full fledged junior college. The year 1968 saw a milestone passed, the formal accreditation of our institution as a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
