SUPEREGO From childhood, man learns that he not only has to obey the Ego ' s reality principle to obtain pleasure and avoid pain, but that he also must try to behave according to the moral dictates of his parents and society. The Superego is the individual ' s moral code. The ego-ideal and the conscience are the two subsystems of this judicial branch of the personality. They bring about feelings of pride and feelings of guilt or inferiority, respectively. The Stiperego establishes as its oivn goals the aca- demic and occupational accomplishments of others. [8]
