By our Galilean ' s enigmatic ethic, we are, none of us, honorable men. But we have our code of honor, and we are reasonable men. U ' c do not ask for absolutes of love; we ask only for honorable order. You are free to hate one another and stay. But if you happen to cheat or steal, we must send you away. This is the way of jurisprudence. This is the judge ' s song. And so, Emily, for all of us, honor is ils mni pau i. In the beginning, in 1837, education spread to the Southland. A quarter of a century later, the warring hordes from Princeton ' towns, mad- dened in their envy, descended to regain their preeminence. In the throes of the Great War, the gentle culture fell. But still its loyal sons, undaunted, came to Davidson. In those unsettled post-war years, the traditions of the See of Learning almost collapsed a second time at the hands of the new barbarians. But in 1923 the southern survivors of the latest concept in war finally tore themselves away from Paris and rushed home to save their Mn-cr from rum. These hardened veterans of the bistro, doubtless under the influence of the French variety of justice, founded the Davidson Court. From that historic day to the present the Court has been defining itself in a series of divine fiats. This year it is a service club: building freshman unity by giving them something to unify against. In the face of recent challenge, they still give their selfless guidance. And without it, the freshmen might take months to see that after all, the walks are the shortest way around. COURT OF CONTROL Jim Bootle Judge
