V W JORDAN BASEBALL 15'-fs, ', ' YN r 'Md r r Diamond Highlights l nm With the season barely underway as this page went to the printers, the road ahead for the l957 Jordan baseball nine appeared to be rather rocky. Because of inclement . weather, the members of the squad had little time for pre- season practice before their opener against Bellarmine. This contest they lost by a MR- CHR'5T'NE lopsided l6 to 6 count. However they did recover ft theirbatting and fielding eyes against the Sunnyvale Jets and managed to squeeze out an 8 to 7 victory. But they fell back into theirlosing habitsin their next two outings and lost to Wilbur, l7 to 8, and to Sequoia, l3 to 2. With nearlytwo-thirdsof the season left to play, it is to be hoped that the pitching of Simpson, Hoffacker, and McCowan will finally find the range and give the boys of Coach Christine's squad the winning season they are striving for. ...ff THIRD ROW: Mgr. DOLPHIN TRACK sEAsoN IN Review As the i957 track season .- began, this year's Jordan track squad showed excellent -' - - promise of continuing the out- T V standing record compiled by previous Dolphin thinclads. T ,izzl A- - - 2J'fa'?if f I' 1' 221' A ii. ,A gl, ,, wg 4 ' -L 2 l . 2, ig Qs Burnell Peard in the sprints, 1 A the cindennen opened their if season with a sparkling 90 to 22 victory over the Menlo Atherton Bears. Their short lived victory string was snapped, however, when they lost a rather disheartening dual meet to the powerful Bearcats of San Mateo,66 2f3 to 44 lf3. However the meet was highlighted by the sparkling individual efforts of Bennion, Pete Mahurin, and Rusty Bennett. Although the season was still young as this page went to press, it seemed certain that the performance of Bennion, Peard, Mahurin, and Bennett will insure a successful year for Coach Dunham's tracksters. Other potential winners for the spiked shoe squad include Jim Cheatham, in the 75 and i505 Steve Moreno and Steve Wheeler in the 6605 Gary Hair in the 3305 and Barry Evans in the l320.
