YEAR IN REVIEW Lightweight The JuniorVarsity had a rough season this year winning onlyone of the four games played. Althoughhandicapped by inexperience and injuries they played a brand of ball that drew compliments from all who watched them. They opened their season against the Palo Alto Bruzers, a Pop Wamer Lea- gue team, and were defeated in a hard fought contest I2-6. This defeat was followed quickly bv another at the hands of the Cherokees of Sequoia also by a i2-6 score. However the lighter Dolphins finally got untracked against the Menlo Boys' School and swept to a l9-7 victory. This game was highlighted by the excellent line play of the lightweight forward wall. Any possibility of a .500 season van- ished however in a crushing 34-I6 defeat at the hands of the Sunnyvale Jets in their last game of the season. The annual football banquet was attended by both varsities, the players' fathers, and a number of faculty members. Steve Duwe and Darrell Hamerton, former Dolphins, now on the Poly Vikings, spoke along with Dr. Stevens and Mr. Stone. Trophies were awarded to Rusty Bennett, most valuable player, Benny Kwong, captain of the year, and Jay Mitchell, coaches' award. Mr. DiBari awarded the most improved player award to Steve Wheeler. DUNHAM I JORDAN FOOTBALL ' Varsity Congratulations appear to be in order for the Jordan Varsity who did an ex- cellent iob during the past football season. Although they managed to roll up only a four won three lost record, they did make each game an interesting one for their student rooters. The Dolphins opened the season against Sequoia and managed to defeat the Cherokees in a rather hard fought contest i2-0. This was followed by a rather lopsided victory over the Jets from Sunnyvale 39-O. In this game the team ap- peared to really fine their scoring punch. When they extended their- victory st- ring with a 20-I3 win over Serra, it appeared as though Jordan were heading for another undefeated season. However in our only night contest played at Bellamline any dreams of an undefeated season ended abruptly on a last minute punt retum as the Bells tri- umphed 7-0. This was followed bya rather discouraging 8-7 defeat at the hands of the Menlo Atherton,Bears. .This game was played in a driving rainstorm and the play was as sloppy as the weather. However in the Big Game against -Wilbur, at Paly High's Hod Ray Field, the Dolphins played well enough to win most games but were up against an in- spired Warrior team and fell l3-0. The final game of the season was played against Carlmont and the Dolphins ended their season on a victory note by putting together one of their best games to roll up a one sided 28-O score. Score-wise, this was an excellent season. The Varsity rolled up lO6 points while allowing their opponents only 4l . None of their opponents was allowed more than two touchdowns.
