Most ofthe happy events of the Q r' f year are recorded and remembering them may make you a -2 ,tssttg 5 little sad that the year is over. pl Xxx E, E As you go along through life you will experience other I 7 such times when you regret the ending of a day, a year, an 1 2,? , ,M association. But if you live each day doing those things which ' i n A ., F ' will bring real satisfaction and peace within you long after gg p g the fleeting memories of the dance or the game are gone, you will find your regret is mixed with happiness. Let's search our thoughts for those experiences which have made our lives better, for those things which have pre- pared us for the future and for those ideas which have given us a spiritual thrill. Let's keep these things in our minds and hearts and brush aside all the others, with no regrets for having lived, worked and played together as we learned this year. Andrew C . Stevens CUSTODIANS OFFICE STAFF ,, at ff., L. HENRY GUNN, Superintendent MARIE GREEN, Dean of Girls 'I' JUDICIAL GUIDANCE ,rv . X ,. x f Y. X... 4 I I . - - I ,f ,--.,,,. F41-i RUTH GIBBS Ninth ROBERT CAVENDER Ninth 1 ANNA LAWRENCE, Eighth MAMIE BRADY, Eighth KATHERINE COOK, Seventh Life at Jordan would not have been complete without the help and understanding Jordanites received from their counselors. Miss Gibbs and Mr. Cavender, ninth grade counselors, feel that their iob is to help students make wise choices for their first year of high school and to start making some plans for their future. Other people expect ninth graders to assume responsibilities. We try to give them opportunities to do this. The eight grade counselors give particular attention to the placement of students in groups so they will be challenged to work to their capacity, and will develop good study habits before high school work begins. Guiding students in developing good social habits is also an important aim. said Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Brady. Mrs. Cook states, in the seventh grade the emphasis is on orientation to the new school, to help students adiust to new teachers, new friends, and the new routine ofa larger junior high school. Mr. Nelson, testing counselor, administers achievement and aptitude tests which provide the teachers, counselors, and adminis- trators with the necessary data for the solution of practical school problems. Mr. Korb, Coordinates the educational program for students who possess special abilities here at Jordan with the program at Wilbur and with schools above and below us. These people who have worked so hard for every Jordanite deserve our grateful thanks. ALBERT NELSON, Testing CONNELL KORB, Special T- LEGISLATIVE ACILON ...Q ,- H ., . N XI 'y 3 -4 QA, a STUDENT LEADERS First Semester BENNY KWONG RUSTY BENNETT LEE SIMS Cheers! to the Student Officers and Council for the first semester. Jordan has benefited from their fine leadership and dependable work. The Executive Council consisted of Student Manager, Rusty Bennett, his assistant, Lee Sims, Council President, Benny Kwong, Vice President, Ted West, and Clerk, Emily Teale. The main things that the Executive Council and Student Council did to improve life at Jordan were to pass a law stating that any damage done to bikes while on school property was to be paid for by the Student Body Fund and the Social Fund, the supplying of services to the school such as the pen machine, which was purchased this year, the pencil machine, book covers, pompons, and the fruit machine, the help they gave to clubs finan- cially, and the successful operation of the Halloween Carnival. Their main fob was to keep up the payments on the Milkshake Machine fknown as the 'Electric Cow'i, pay salaries, and repair equipment. They directed the work of the commissioners and planned the rooting sections for games, arranged the games and transportation to them, and planned air raid and fire drills. Rusty and Lee did an excellent job and passed the government into the able hands of the second semester officers in February. STUDENT COUNCIL TED WEST .lg7W W .Y Y ' STUDENT LEADERS Second Semester TIM DOLAN BENNY KWONG The second semester Student Council and student officers continued the fine leadership of the first semester council. The Council consisted of one student from every homeroom. Student Council met every Thursday and there was a i5-minute homeroom period every Friday morning to allow the representatives time to report to their homerooms. Student Council officers for the second semester were President Phyllis Lyon, Vice President Thomy Robison, and Secretary Jeff McCraken. These officers, along with Student Manager Benny Kwong and his assistant Tim Dolan, constituted the Executive Council. The second semester Council was concerned with the revision of Jordan's Constitution. Rusty Bennett, first semester student Manager, worked with Mr. Stone in revising the constitution. They brought the articles up to date and reviewed the duties of the commissioners. Student Council was also concerned with repairing the public address system, completing the purchase of the milkshake machine, and working with Benny in selecting the commissioners who served ably throughout the semester. The Council worked closly with the Honor Code Commissioner, Julie Sims, and her committee to strenghten and preserve the Honor Code. Early in the semester the section concerning smoking was brought under discussion and agroup of students went to the Palo Alto City Council to ask them to enforce a law requiring that cigarette machines be kept in view of an adult at all times. Benny and Tim helped with the election of an 8th grader to become student manager next year. Student Council PHYLL15 LYON ws YPD! ,gsm-. DUNHAM I JORDAN FOOTBALL ' Varsity Congratulations appear to be in order for the Jordan Varsity who did an ex- cellent iob during the past football season. Although they managed to roll up only a four won three lost record, they did make each game an interesting one for their student rooters. The Dolphins opened the season against Sequoia and managed to defeat the Cherokees in a rather hard fought contest i2-0. This was followed by a rather lopsided victory over the Jets from Sunnyvale 39-O. In this game the team ap- peared to really fine their scoring punch. When they extended their- victory st- ring with a 20-I3 win over Serra, it appeared as though Jordan were heading for another undefeated season. However in our only night contest played at Bellamline any dreams of an undefeated season ended abruptly on a last minute punt retum as the Bells tri- umphed 7-0. This was followed bya rather discouraging 8-7 defeat at the hands of the Menlo Atherton,Bears. .This game was played in a driving rainstorm and the play was as sloppy as the weather. However in the Big Game against -Wilbur, at Paly High's Hod Ray Field, the Dolphins played well enough to win most games but were up against an in- spired Warrior team and fell l3-0. The final game of the season was played against Carlmont and the Dolphins ended their season on a victory note by putting together one of their best games to roll up a one sided 28-O score. Score-wise, this was an excellent season. The Varsity rolled up lO6 points while allowing their opponents only 4l . None of their opponents was allowed more than two touchdowns. Althoughhandicapped by inexperience and injuries they played a brand of ball that drew compliments from all who watched them. They opened their season against the Palo Alto Bruzers, a Pop Wamer Lea- gue team, and were defeated in a hard fought contest I2-6. This defeat was followed quickly bv another at the hands of the Cherokees of Sequoia also by a i2-6 score. However the lighter Dolphins finally got untracked against the Menlo Boys' School and swept to a l9-7 victory. This game was highlighted by the excellent line play of the lightweight forward wall. Any possibility of a .500 season van- ished however in a crushing 34-I6 defeat at the hands of the Sunnyvale Jets in their last game of the season. The annual football banquet was attended by both varsities, the players' fathers, and a number of faculty members. Steve Duwe and Darrell Hamerton, former Dolphins, now on the Poly Vikings, spoke along with Dr. Stevens and Mr. Stone. Trophies were awarded to Rusty Bennett, most valuable player, Benny Kwong, captain of the year, and Jay Mitchell, coaches' award. Mr. DiBari awarded the most improved player award to Steve Wheeler. Both the varsity and the lightweights compiled commendable won and lost records while the caliber of play made them extremely interesting to watch in action. The Varsity under the direction of Mr. Harris had one of its better seasons, winning 8 and tying l of the l3 games played. Scoring honors for this year's Dolphin squad were shared by Voile, Hunt and Simpson. The Lightweights while not as successful in the won and lost column did compile a respectable record. Because of inclement . weather, the members of the squad had little time for pre- season practice before their opener against Bellarmine. This contest they lost by a MR- CHR'5T'NE lopsided l6 to 6 count. However they did recover ft theirbatting and fielding eyes against the Sunnyvale Jets and managed to squeeze out an 8 to 7 victory. But they fell back into theirlosing habitsin their next two outings and lost to Wilbur, l7 to 8, and to Sequoia, l3 to 2. With nearlytwo-thirdsof the season left to play, it is to be hoped that the pitching of Simpson, Hoffacker, and McCowan will finally find the range and give the boys of Coach Christine's squad the winning season they are striving for. ...ff THIRD ROW: Mgr. However the meet was highlighted by the sparkling individual efforts of Bennion, Pete Mahurin, and Rusty Bennett. Although the season was still young as this page went to press, it seemed certain that the performance of Bennion, Peard, Mahurin, and Bennett will insure a successful year for Coach Dunham's tracksters. Other potential winners for the spiked shoe squad include Jim Cheatham, in the 75 and i505 Steve Moreno and Steve Wheeler in the 6605 Gary Hair in the 3305 and Barry Evans in the l320.
