Tllll Llllll'l'Wllllill'l' Even though the Lightweight Football Team 's won and loss record was not too impressive, the value received by them in working and playing together more than made the season a success. The Lightweights opened their season against the San Carlos Boys' Club. The San Carlos team scored first in the second quarter, but the Dolphins came to life in the last quarter after Bob Lauridsen intercepted a San Carlos pass. On the next play Lee Davis ran 55 yards for the touch- down. The conversion was good and this game ended in a 7-7 deadlock. The Junior Dolphins next tangled with Sequoia, with Jim Fields starring for the Dolphins by going over twice in the first half. Sequoia won this close game by one point, T9-l8. Jordan met Sequoia again, but this time they played a greatly improved team and went down to defeat. The Sequoians scored twice in the first quarter and again in the second., The game 's final score was 20-O. The Lightweights ended their season by playing the Wilbur Lightweight team. Although the Warriors won by a T2-O score in a hard fought contest, the Dolphins appeared to be on their way to a score as the final gun sounded. At the annual Football Banquet given for the Varsity and the Lightweight teams at the end of the season, John Stewart, Stanford end and ex-Jordanite, spoke to the players on the value of schoolwork to an athlete. Rich Wilkersen was awarded the most valuable player award by the team. John McGregor received anaward for being the most improved player, while Ricky Malloch was presented the Coaches' Award, and Bob Talbott was named team captain for the season. It was also announced at the conclusion of the season that Coach Bob Cavender would replace Mr. Utley as the ninth grade counselor during the spring semester. At the same time Don Harris will move out into the gym to take over Coach Cavender's classes. No plans for next season 's coaching staff had been decided as this book went to press.
