The 1970 Trailblazer staff would like to dedicate this year's book to her as an expression of thanks for her continual interest in our lives. Mrs. Commeau has been a Long Beach booster since 1924 when her family was one .ofthe first three families to ever build a home in Long Beach. Although a Polytechnical High School graduate, Mrs. Commeau has become a B. J. B. QBig Jordan Boosterl since she came here in 1955. Her family also played a part in our school's history when daughter Shari became the only girl student body president of Jordan to hold office. Running the student store efficiently is notenough for Bernice: she can always be found supporting our baseball, basketball and wrestling teams. Generation gaps are non existent as far as she is concerned. She feels, lf I try to understand the young people and their problems: they in return will try to understand me: and we all get along. Happiness is having Bernice Commeau as a friend. Friendships can grow for a lifetime. To growth! Thanks Mrs. Commeau for letting it begin. Thank you, 1970 Trailblazer Staff - -.--....-,,.. .CUMMEAU INS THE HE RT Mrs. Noble-Working with Mrs. Commeau is like riding a ferris wheel, a roller coaster and a teeter- totter all at the same time. There's ups and downs, fun and happiness day in and day out. You never know what to expect. Debbie Miller-She's always willing to listen to our problems. l enjoy working in the student store because I feel like l'm helping Mrs. Commeau. Claire Thomas--She's one of my favorite teachers, but I think of her more as a friend. Dave Allen-Her jokes aren't very funny, but she's really cool. Connie Muis--Though l've only known her a short time, she's a person l could go to if I needed help. The students at Jordan seem to be of great concern to Mrs. Commeau. Homer Griffis-She shows appreciation for athletes by putting pictures and news clippings on the bulletin board outside the student store. Carol Downum-l have known her for three years and l think she is one of the greatest teachers here. She is so understanding and always willing to help, even kids she doesn't know. Chuck Feenstra-She's hard working, loyal and devoted to the students at Jordan. Gail Parsons-She's really nice and she does a good job of running the student store. Mike Price-Mrs. Commeau isn't high pressuring like other teachers. She only suggests what ge should do, but expects it to get one. Collen Falski-She goes out of her way to do things for other people. She's really friendly. OF LL... Carol Ness-l've been in the student store for three years now, and I think Mrs. Commeau is one of the nicest persons l've ever met. She takes an interest in every person she meets, and she never forgets you. Diane Schmidt-l've known her for three years, and l think she's really a great person. She's a lot of fun and easy to get along with. Raoul Sanders-She's an out-a- sight teacher. Mrs. Commeau is understanding and she's got a lot of class. Mr. P. Davis-Mrs. Commeau is one of the finest ladies I have ever worked with. Sherry Maguglin-I only know Mrs. Commeau through interviewing her. Before this lwas very impressed when l would always see her at baseball and basketball games yelling for our team. Jordan was privileged to be under the direction of two outstanding young men this year. Dave Clark and Ed Dixon proved to be leaders in all aspects of student life. Dave, the fall student body president combined his governmental duties with participation on the Varsity football team. Under Dave's direction, student government began the arduous job of revising the Student Handbook. He also represented Jordan in the 1969 Boys' State. Ed took office in February after having served as A.S.B. vice-President the previous semester. The handbook was completed during his term, and the student forum saw a revival in its activity. Beautification Week was another student government sponsored event held while Ed was president. He, also, was required to divide his time between his office and sports. Ed was a valuable member of the 1970 Varsity tennis squad. These two did all they could to further Jordan's standard of excellence and tradition of friendliness. They worked hard for their school and took the responsibility well. We would like to take this opportunity to comment Dave and Ed for their performance this past school year. It gave me a great knowledge of my government and how it works. lt would be beneficial for every girl in California to attend a Girls' State session. AMERICAN FIELD Viva I'Amerique 1' YH He took subjects we are all familar with fEnglish: Mrs. Stewartj J -:- SERVICE When Jean-Francois Gravie-Plande came to Long Beach from Paris, France, he found that two cultures, although separated by an ocean and a continent, can be predictably similar. People found in those two cultures may have varied backgrounds and different points of view, but they are people- and certain traits are found in all. Jean-Francois found Jordan strange compared to his lycee thigh schoolj. He quickly adjusted to the routine and found no serious problems in getting involved in school and outside activities. Quite fluent in his English, Jean-Francois listed speech as one of his favorite classes. Another he especially enjoyed was U.S. History. Not all of his time was spent with books. Jordan's tennis team found him an able addition to their squad. Much of his time was spent at Cosmopolitan Club meetings and at get-togethers with the other exchange students stationed in Long Beach. The Jordan students found him a friendly ambassador from France. Everyone that came in contact with him will remember him always. We can only hope that Jean-Francois found Jordan to truly be The Friendly School . Before long he became one of the gang. W e if-2? 1511 . Y W 4 1 9 l Q fu ' ZZ! 4 E IOR , '52 i How can one describe what it feels like to be a senior? Life is becoming an exciting experience-full of all the ioys and sorrows of young adulthood. The challenges and pressures of the upcoming years are beginning to be felt. College, the draft marriage, a job these responsibilities must now be faced. June is a very special word in our vocabulary. For some it holds the feeling of nervous anticipation, for others release, at last. As graduation draws near, one cannot help feeling some regret that the high school days are ending. We will lose contact with many of the friends we made over the years. We will have to rely on ourselves more and more. There will be fewer teachers and advisors taking a personal interest in us. When we came to Jordan in the sophomore year, graduation appeared a long way off. Even last year, June 1970 seemed as if it could never really come. This year, however, it came upon us at an alarming rate. SAT and ACT tests were taken by college- bound seniors. College and scholarship applications were sent. Some seniors started looking for jobs: marriage plans were made. Everything came so quickly. Now, graduation is here. We have reached a turning point in our lives. What faces us is even more important. Our schooling has proven a meaningful experience, a satisfactory preparation for the next step in our lives-adulthood. il? l it .Q SE IOR OFFICERS Q it f g 4, 6- ,, I I V, V :?Vz, V , W N,, A, ,,,, V, f m'f 'fm,, 1 I fn. - ' 1 -'M' .., 'fv'fZi-Wi - ly W my A ,w1ifU,, USM-Cilfllwp q - ' ,W Q4 -' fx! ff ,Q , . AABEEH Throughout the season the motto before each game was a simple phrase WlN. The motto signified an attitude which each player was trying to develop. The success of the season can only be measured in terms of effort to reach the goal. In this respect many of our Bee hoopsters are champions, and their efforts should be applauded. NCEEH Jordan's Cee basketball team, though outmaned and undersized, fought valiantly and courageously throughout each game of the season. With each game, a marked improvement was made by every individual and the team as a whole. This is the proving ground for future success in basketball. Jordan Cees proved that they will continue to strive for success. ii V RITY TOP ROW: Coach Lifshin, Goodlad, Smoot, Morris, Cowsar, McGee, Palotta, Coach Deffner. Under Coach Dave Timpone, individual and team members have displayed special skills and knowledge. Numerous school records have been set and broken. Many new trophies and medals from invitationals have been earned. The number of incoming sophomores has increased over recent years. Two things have led to the successes: the extensive knowledge and time of Coach Timpone and the long and hard work of all team members. The present nucleus of the team will assure Jordan future success and recognition. Special recognition for an outstanding job should go to seniors-Gary Horne, Craig Putman, Ken Radle and sophomore, Ken Reed. LEFT TO RIGHT.
