John W. Wilson, our first principal, opened new horizons to young people, unselfishly pioneering progress. Under this man's devoted leadership Jordan High has grown from a cluster of barrack-like huts surrounded by weeds and mud, to one of the finest schools in the nation. 1 Admiration and respect are not enough to show our deep grat- ification. However, Jordan's growth cannot be thought of in terms of bulidings and facilities only. This year book is only a tangible symbol, but more important are the principles and democratic ideals he has set forth. He has been active in community activities and has struggled for better school facilities and rights of the students. Let it be our solemn pledge, then, to perpetuate this heritage by measuring ourselves against these principles of self direction, concern for others, and straight thinking. Let us develop the appreciations, the knowledges and skills so necessary to democratic living. If we do this, then we will be honoring the man for whom the 1956 Trailblazer is dedicated. We, Mr. Wilson, the students and faculty, will never forget you and your love for freedom and democracy. I' fgfwq- 'ig f'W' EJ' 'VIE Q' 5: ' ,JD-. . :,. These students meet every day first period with Mr. Brown, director of activities, in the little theatre. The purpose of this class is manyfold. All phases of the activity programs, student body finances, assem- blies, school calendars, inter-school relations and the morale and spirit of the Jordan students are its problems and are considered at every meeting. The tri-weekly meetings of the Student Court are regular meetings of which plans and proper requests must be made. Perhaps the foremost objective of the student Government Class is to acquaint the students of the school with traditions and the co-curricular program, for by so doing every student will be made a more significant part of Jordan High School. As Time Goes By , this year's theme, was portrayed with scenes from the Roaring Twenties , to scenes of the modern day trend. Under Mr. Robertson's direction, the A Cappella Choir sang The Old Time Choir , 'llf There is Someone Lovelier Than You , and On The Gallows Tree . Stardust was the song which the Girls Glee Club sang, while the Boys Glee Club followed them with Moonlight Bay . When the two groups got together they came up with This is My Country , which was very nicely done. The Esquires dance band, a portion of the Jordan band, did an effective iob with two numbers. To change the pace a bit The 7 Dixie Cats woke up the crowd with their version of Dixieland music. Mrs. Robinson and Miss Buckovitch's modern dancers did a wonderful iob with there very well timed numbers. Also adorning the auditorium stage were the Song and Flag Girls with their chorus line. All the music was provided by the Orchestra and Band, under the very capable direction of Mr. Dixon. ON THE GALLOWS TREE HSTARDUST ALL TOGETHER BOYS M00Nl-IGHT B vi! . FATHER OF THE BRIDE On May 10th and 'l1th, the Jordan drama class presented the Senior Class Play. The play this year was the comedy, The Father of the Bride . Starring as Father of the bride was Gary Watkins. Double cast as the bride were Candy Gillis and Peggy Paul, with Edward Taft as the groom. Barbara Kidder as the charming mother and Gene Martin and Clifford Crew as the two brothers complete the fam- ily circle. A wide variety of interesting characters are played by other members of the advanced drama class. Mr. Banks learns that one of the young men he has seen occassionally about the house is about to become his son-in-law. Daughter Kay announced the en- gagement out of a clear sky. Mrs. Banks and the two boys are happy, but Banks is in a dither. The groom-to-be, Buckley Dustan, appeares on the scene and Banks realizes that the engagement is serious. Buckley and Kay don't want a big wedding. .lust a simple affair with a few friends. We soon learn, however, that the few friends idea is out. Then the trouble really begins. A professional ca- terer is called inp professional florists and furniture mover, dressmakers and the rest take over. Banks' terror over the costs mounts in a crescendo, as the list grows. Kay in a fit of temper calls off the wedding, and Buckley leaves in des- pair. Of course, the lovers' quarrel is patched up and preparations for the' wedding proceed. When Banks leaves for the church with Kay, he realizes that she is getting what every bride should have when she leaves her family. The play was a big success and enjoyed by all.
