WILSON, Without your guidance and support throughout the past three years, we, the graduating seniors, would not have gained the tull measure of enjoyment and educational benefit from our stay at Jordan. Though each day may pass without any expression of our appreciation, you know that our best wishes and thanks remain with you, our principal. We especially have noted the gen- uine interest which you have taken in each personal achievement, the full backing you have given us in our con- tacts with conflicting groups outside of school, and the pleasure you have expressed over each of our athletic and scholastic victories. TO CDUR STUDENT BODY, I would like to express my thanks and apprecia- tion for my election to the presidency of the Jordan Student Body. lt is my hope and intention to create better feeling between the students and faculty. l will do my best to make Jordan the leading Long Beach high school. With these intentions in mind, l shall endeavor to maintain the best standards set by past presidents. Ken Miller, President of the Jordan Student Body In deepest appreciation, l would like to than the faculty and students for their splendid cooper tion received during my tenure of office as Stude Body President. You have been more than generous in helpin me to serve as best l could, Through your work alon we have made Jordan a better institution of learn ing-a stepping stone toward a bright and intelligent future. Tom Lyon, Retiring Presiden' H.. K ,ff Mr. Cline: Years from now, as we look back on our days at Jordan, we will not have forgotten the part you played in mak- ing our stay here both pleasant and instructive. The co-curricular activities you sponsored certainly relieved the routine of everyday studies. Due large- ly to your efforts, Jordan has one ot the most active Student Government classes in Southern California. No one can forget the part you played in student clubs, social activities, as- semblies, supervision of the school calendar, the athletic program, student awards, Student Council, and Boys' League, editing the daily bulletins, and supervising the student court and boys' discipline. More than anything though, we shall remember you tor your friendly advice and the sincere in- terest in our attairs and welfare you displayed. Mrs. Casselberry: We, the graduating class, would like to thank you for the help and guidance you have given us. Your cooperation in helping us decide what classes we should take and how to arrange our program is deeply appreciated. We think you did a very commendable job of handling individual guidance, both in social and educational work, serving as principal during the principal's ab- sence, giving educational and psycho- logical tests, supervising girl's discip- line, and organizing girls organiza- tions. Hats off to Mrs. Casselberry for her splendid job. Mr. Roseman: Back of many of our finest guidance activities at Jordan has been your hand. As a departing senior class, we congratulate you on a job wonderfully handled-as custodian of school rec- ords, editor of student manuel, direc- tor of the audio-visual program, test consultant, and custodian of eligibility records. THE FOODS CLASS Cooking classes have been active at Jordan since the beginning ot the school. Up to this present year, Miss Druschel has been in charge of all classes, but she is retiring to Home Management, while capable, like- able, Mrs. Anderson steps in to carry on our democratic ways in an enriched environment. The advanced Foods class, which is taught the fourth period, was strengthened this year by the addi- tion of five very capable chefs. They are DeRoy Beeney, Robert Pace, Bill Klinginsmith, Gene Gillies, and Tom Lyon- .-T -..l. AUTO SHOP CLASS Auto mechanics is taught under the able leadership of Mr. Glenn in Jordan's auto shop. Mr. Glenn is also assisting more advanced students in jobs dealing directly with auto repairs. Hundreds of dollars worth of modern equipment is at the disposal of students enrolled in the auto shop classes. A complete car is also available for study in brakes, wheel aligning, clutch, drive shaft and differential repair. A new course, Auto Electrics, has been added to cope with the de- mand for automotive knowledge. ll-A CLASS Row 1. C Larson, D Smith, 1 Schulster, A. THE SOCIAL CULTURE CLASS Social Culture at Jordan was created for the purpose of showing the students an in- teresting and intelligent way to carry on scientific research in order to help solve the prob- lems of life. The Social Culture program has been thoroughly studied and planned by our qualified facultv, so the course is presented ac- curately and intelligently in order to fulfill its purpose. This is one of the basic courses at Jordan and will be remembered by Jordan alumni as a class that was created for the student. THE PUBLIC SPEAKING CLASS Thomas J, Watson, highest sal- aried man in the nation, made this statement recently, You can hire men to do almost anything for you. but you have to speak for yourself. The objective of the speech de- partment is to teach students so that they can speak tor themselves in today's democratic society. As a part of their speech educae tion, Jordan's public speakers went into the community and spoke to many civic groups. li. Nw FZ . ,,,,, , 12 v '. 15. KENNY MILLER THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT CLASS The Student Government class, under the leadership of Mr. Crossan, is the heart of the co-curricular program at Jordan. ln this class are all the student body officers and the presidents of all clubs on the campus. Both the Executive Committee and the Student Council hold their meetings during student government class time. The main aim of the course is to develop competence for the successful organization and administration of their particular co-curricular activity and a school-wide program that will help all students in Jordan attain desirable growth in: self-direction, boy and girl relationship, social competence, and in cultural enrichment. is FIRST SEMESTER Row 1. Heller The Student Council at Jordan High School is an organization made up of two students from every third period class and the Student Government class. This group, which is presided over by the president of the student body, meets every Tuesday, third period, to hear, discuss, and vote on certain business brought up before the council. This group also brings in suggestions and business from students in their class on problems about the school. Another duty they have is to return to their class with the information they have gathered at the meeting. This way the classes are represented in a democratic way. The representatives of the class vote the way their class feels on problems which have been presented to them. The Student Council representatives are elected every semester from all of the third period classes. Two representa- tives are elected from each class in order that they will only miss class every other week. STUDENT SECOND SEMESTER Row l. J. Hutchins, T Markham, R. Nc-whart J, Longstreth, L. Each semester has brought added style to the makeup and general content until it is now rated along with top high school editions of the nation. First page is devoted to news coverage and advance publicity. Latest campus happenings are sent to the local newspapers through a student news Bureau. Gossip and personality reviews make the second sheet popular with the student body, while the third shines its spotlight on the social parties, gatherings and banquets of the Panther set. Fourth page brings to memory the thrills and chills of all seasonal sports. Much credit for the functioning ot the Cat's Purr group is due to the adviser, Mrs. Padgham, who recently came to us from the United States WACS. Frank McAuliffe has held editorship for two semesters, and with her diligent staff has continued to hold high the reputation of Jordan's weekly journalistic product. ..- 4 Bu-wh as-M... The Hi-Y started at Jordan l3 years ago. lt has been one of the foremost clubs in service and social enterprise ever since. The first semester the Hi-Y was presided over by Dick Roberts, he was aided by his able assistants, Vice-President Don Fitzpatrick, Secretary John Neuhart, and Treasurer Bill Thady. Perhaps the most remembered first semester activity of the Hi-Y was the initiation. This was followed by a picnic at Orange County Park and a visit to a radio broatl- cast. The Hi-Y also sponsored an annual dance, the Hi-Y Loud Sock Dance. These memorable events will always remain in the memories of those who helped make them so pleasant. In the second semester Tom Lyon was president, Dick Hannawell, Vice President, John Neuhart, Secretary, and Ronald Crowe, Treasurer. The new semester was started with a hay ride, followed again by initiation. Afterwards at Hunt- ington Beach, there was a party on the sand and in the surf. These activities were all guided by the helping hand of our sponsor, Harvey Wilson, and Bud Ward, local business man and Lions Club president. -' Row I.
