In the home economics pre-school children of teachers at Douglas as well as children of people in the district came to start their school life. From the activities they experience today these children prepare to meet what will come tomorrow. Student Interest Generated by School Activities In the past school was a place to come to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic. Times have changed, and school would prove very boring if it was only a classroom experience. In the first few months of this school year a humanities field trip, the visit of two former drug addicts, and the school for pre-schoolers in the home economics classes of the Senior Building helped to take education for the students of David Douglas out of the classroom.

n-7 is .- The humanities field trip tAbove and Belowl took the students to the Old Journal Building, The Albino Art Center, Washington Park, and many other places to study architecture in the Portland area. Two former drug addicts, Omar Tangway and Dick Holleman, spoke to the modern .problems classes of Mr. Darby, Mr. Bryson, and Mrs. Fulginiti. They tol of being on drugs since they were both 14 years old. They explained that the purpose of the Alcohol and Drug Section of the Oregon State Board of It-:iaith is to rehabilitate alcoholics and drug addicts by the use of group rapy.
