Through the courses in drama, speech, music, and art, the department encour- ages the student to develop his capabilities in the field of humanities. By means of competitive speech tournaments, dramatic school plays, in- strumental and vocal concerts, and field trips to such institutions as the Portland Art Museum, the highly qualified staff has been able to develop in their pupils a keen sense of appreciation for the liberal arts.
