DIRECTORS The directors of this network's programs are l4 ambitious producers-the student coun- cil members. They have accomplished much during this year in the way of fine entertainment for the student body. Fourteen members make up the student council, including five seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen. The members are Mary Ann Mulligan, Ioy Lonn, Mary Lou Neujahr, Eugene Sobolik and Ioe Klimeni, seniors, while Lois Gibson, Barbara Michael, Bennett Zinnecker and Don Hopwood are the junior representatives. Victor Beckler, Norman Coufal and Constance Votava repre- sent the sophomores, while Michael lohnson and Mary Beth Moran the freshmen. Eugene Sobolik ably led this group during the school year. Lois Gibson gave her sup- port as vice-president, Barbara Michael was secretary and Michael lohnson, treasurer. Among the eleven productions that were presented were Dr. Brown and his Liquid Air Demonstration, William Student and his Sun- shine Collies, George Iohnson, pianist and hurnorist, Mysterious Brown, a magician, Sounds of the Air, Leonard, Songs of Birdsg and Harter, the young adventurer. George Iohnson was thought by many to be one of the outstanding televised programs of the year. Editing the school handbook was another of the activities of the student council. These books were put out to direct the audience on various rules and regulations of the television station. Through their good-will program, flowers were given to members of the audience who became ill or had a recent bereavement in the family. The flowers were bought from a, fund donated by the audience. Approximately five to seven plants are sent each year from this fund. Mary Lou lleuiahr and Lois l-loeft give lack Lang a skating lesson at the student council skating party. Barbara Michael plays the l'tl'ierein under the direction of Paul Leonard at a student council special artist program. Elaine Wadkins, treasurer, exclaims, Chest 46, while Marilyn Maack, secretary, says Six foot, two, as they measure vice-presi- dent, Gary Widle. Dud Kovarik, president, remarks What A A Man, as the seniors are measured for caps and gowns. LEADING CHARACTERS The 53 actors and actresses put on their last show on station D.C.-T.V. this year. The stars of the 1949-1950 series of programs were Dudley Kovarik, president, Gary Widle, vice- president, Marilyn Maack, secretary, Elaine Wadkins, treasurer. The top production of the year was Gridiron Magic which presented an undefeated season in football. The other attractions of the year were basketball, track, D.C. Club, Pep Club, instrumental music, vocal music, journalism, speech, F.H.A., F.F.A., and physical education. The football team topped the Central Eight Conference. Mr. Willard Lally directed the great production presented by the senior class called The Inner Willie. A field trip to gather information on how to produce more and better shows was taken to Omaha. The highlight of the expedition was Ice Capades of l95U. The show Forty-Niners, the junior-senior banquet, led the TV stars to the great things that they accomplished in their last year. The banquet planned by the junior class and presi- dent, Marvin Craig proved the acting ability of the group. The other junior class directors of the production were Gary Widle, vice-presi- dent, Eugene Sobolik, secretary, and George Hain, treasurer. President Gary Widle starred in the sopho- more video production. Vice president, Bob Lawson, secretary, Bob Meysenburg, Marvin Craig, treasurer, and Iohn Kucera, student council representative, were the top members of the supporting cast. The leading actors in their first show were Iohn Kucera, president, George Abbott, vice president, and Gilbert Kovar, secretary-treas- urer. Dudley Kovarik College Preparatory . . . Seventy-two jun- iors sponsored a class play, Oh! Father, With an all-girl cast. This type of play- Was the first of its kind to ever be presented in David City. Members of the cast were Iudy Richards, Letha Nozicka, Ioan Anderson, Phyllis Blevins, Eva Welker, Evelyn Kucera, Dona Gans, Mari- lu Thomassen, Carole Vanderkolk, and Hen- rietta Svoboda. The cast did a fine job with the help of their director, Mr. Willard Ially. The leadership of the understudies was taken by their class officers, President, Donna Martin, vice-president, lack Lang, secretary, Phyllis Blevins' treasurer, Don Iohnson and their helpful sponsors, Miss Edith Roos and Miss Elaine Ludden. f fr, Iunior executive officers examine junior class play programs. Left to right: Miss Elaine Lud- den, Phyllis Blevins, Donna Martin, Miss Roos, Don Iohnson, and lack Lang. The understudies took part in an unusual episode this year. The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary gave an oppor- tunity to juniors to participate in a county government program. Primary elections were held to determine who would take part in the county government program. The library is the fulfilled wish of Miss Lucile Hoffman, having taken library science as a part of her work for her Masters Degree. These books in the library range from reference manuals and text books to biog- raphies and fiction, Miss Hoffman can honest- ly say that every book in the David City High School library has been used at one time or another. Every day shows that approximately 230- 250 books are in constant use in the library. This means that nearly every person in high school has one or more books in use. 3 Starting with a few meager books gathered from the classrooms the library has increased to the size of 1,900 volumes. The library is managed by control station DC,-T.V,, Room l7, under the direction of Miss Hoffman. Miss Hoffman credits the students who do the checking of the books and the other services for the success of the library. Linda Vanderkolk, who works several hours a day on the library, is a great help to Miss Hoffman. Linda checks the books and records them for Miss Hoffman, which saves much time.
