SPARKS HON dedicate our Omicron to Mr. Sparks for distasteful, labor as the Vice-Principal of Most students do not know Mr. Sparks very well and are inclined to him in time category of Uciictatorsf' but he is without question one of the congenial, hospitable people in Oliver. His job as vice-principal has no glory nor honor connected with it, but without law enforcement a nation, state, city, or organization, such as a school, would be like a person with a disease and no cloctor nor ,medicine to stop the disease before it spreads and destroys the life itself. WE THOWPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED OUR OMICRON ' i Page One Hundred T-hwlrty-six IZA CLASS, JUNE, I953 SENIOR ORIGINALS THE LIFE STORY OF A DO0RKNO1B The life story of a doorknob begins quite naturally in a forest. It is a forest of Gum Trees, howeiver, our doorknob was not made out of gum wood but out of pine wood. This little pine tree was all alone in a forest of gums and so he was pining away for want of another pine. Maybe you wonder how a pine tree pines. Well it pines for food - like pineapples or ice cream cones which in Pine' land are called pine cones. 'One day the pine tree was asked if he would care to join in a friendly game of Pinochle, but he could not say he would for all he had were wood knots. Well to continue - One day a lumber company lumbered up to obtain some lumber. This they did with the help of axes. If you remember an axe is a sharp instrument used for chopping. When the first gum tree was felled, the little pine tree thought - Gosh! f f this is the first time I ever saw a gum drop. The little pine tree didn't like the union Workers at the lumber camp because when they got tired working they could leave. But a pine tree has no leaves. Then a sad thing occurred, the .little pine tree was chopped down and car' ried far away to a factory. On his way to the factory he ribbed and needled the other trees, because everyone knows that a .pine needles. When he arrived at last at the factory, he found there a dog. Well the little pine tree didn't like the dog, because the dog could bark louder than the pine tree and the bark against his grain. He also found upon reaching the factory that he' was to be made into a baseball bat. He didn't like this, because he never did like clubs and was determined never to -be a joiner. Besides he wasn't much of a batter, because the pitch of the pine is always the better. So they thought it better for him to be a door knob, therefore he was shaped into round balls called knobs. Then he was sandpapered. The little pine thought this tickled, but he didn't laugh because he thought that would be rude. Thus he overcame a nobs tickle. He was supposed to be boxed, but since the box office was closed it was de- cided he should be crated and then sent to Pittsburgh, Pa. He liked this much -better since he never did care much for boxing, and especially since he was soft wood. On the way to Pittsburgh many of his friends caught terrible colds and ended up a coffin. However he survived and was then installed in one of the nobbiest houses in Pittsburgh. 'Maybe you' would like to know his favorite motto - so here it is - A soft wood doorknob turneth - ' And also his favorite joke -Knock, knock Who's there? Isador Isador who? Isador knob - So now to close our story - always remember - Hard usage will not destroy a doorknob, but a termite. MARJICRIE DENSLOW Page One Hundred Thirty-seven Vi I I , .
