X -f 'A K Y W7 k , 4? rmm wr CLASS OF FEBRUARY, 1936 HOWL OF FAME It is a beautiful evening in the summer of 1946 and everyone is happy. As' sembled atop the largest building in Pittsburgh are the sponsors of the February, 1936 Class. They are gazing placidly through a powerful telescope kindly donated by the philanthropic millionaires, john Ensworth and Lawrence Spence. A large newspaper building is seen--a newspaper that has been successful only through the work of those two great sport reporters, john Sollami and Steve Santa. Ah, ha, but see, Eleanor Carl is a notorious society writer and Dick Nickeson a War Cor' respondent l ! I The scene is switched to a large office building in downtown Pittsburgh. It is none other than the great firm of Hill and Skundrich. These two superla1f1ve business women are discussing an important business transaction. With the help of their private secretaries, Irene Davis and julia Hall, it is at last completed to their satisfaction. But, before we leave this building let's take a peek at the oifice force. What have we here 7 7 7 Why, there are Helen Long, Ruth Meals, Harry Buch, and Ethel Kuschel, all Afl stenographers and there are the fastest typists in the country, Elizabeth Seifert, Mary Yassick, Helen Behring, and Ruth Williams. And now our old Alma Mater is seen, but!-it is bigger l l ! A new building has been erected, and, we are told, under the able direction of Herbert Coo a.nd Leo Wehner with much help from Ed Piotrowski, Tom Steele, Bill Matthews, Frank Solosky, and Francis Dauer. But, let's glance inside. We find that the '36 Class has sort of taken over the coaching departments, as well as a few teaching jobs. Sam Phillips and Art Vignal, it seems, are coaching the football squad, and, my stars l I l who is that running around that field so fast? Why,. it's Andy Fec teaching those kids how to run. He is well assisted by the two McLatch's. Joe Beierle and Ralph Sapp are coaching the basketball team and doing quite well. Looks like another championship team. Nick Astarb is in charge of the baseball team, and Bob Dummer has succeeded Une Brown as swimming instructor, while Clarence Thomas is now a superb boxing coach. Upon going to the top floor we see Betty jane Smith, who has complete charge of the library. Olga Gndek and jean Heinle are teaching English. Turning the telescope down Brighton Boulevard, we see the establishment of Helen Sisko, hair designer. Across the way is Carl Buchner's Funeral Parlor. Don Lerch, now a famous 'physician also has his office on this great boulevard with Clarence Nash, the optometrist. The Brighton Boulevard Bank is now being man' aged by Ralph Mannka and Art Fennell. But, look at those mansions-I wonder who they belong to. They must-surely belong to those millionaires, Layland and joe Bill. Focusing the lens on the new Allegheny General Hospital we find Gerty Stewart as head nurse. The staff consists of Ruth Nord, the Marterer twins, Betty Kirkbride, and Betty Johnston. Bill Wilson and Ed Philipp, who has been happily married for quite some time, are successful doctors, while Crid Lewis is chief dietician. We next get a glimpse of the County Airport. John Kapurka, that great football star of '35, and his cofpilot, Bill Nesbitt have just landed a giant trifmotor plane. Some passengers are alighting. Maybe we shall see who they are. Yes, there's Bill McCarter, that notorious Gfman, Grace Bottles, Bill Cleary, Edna Quinn, Margaret Mielke, and Ethel Septak. Ah, a ship is about to take eff. It is B-ob Kubiak and Heinemann, pilots, on their way to New York. Their passengers are Ruth Demmler, jane Geyer, Frank Daley, Frances Nickerson, Skee Dick, and Sko Schomaker. In still another plane are Ed Redman and his cofpilot, Mike Cammarata, Page Thirty-nine THE OMICRON C ASS SUNG 0 T Mum L1 eowmav senevmw AYLOPH URQUHART I WORDS Joum QULUVAN 0 5 . x Eagan:-.. Lawrence Turick, who is finishing his rocket ship in which he is planning to visit Mars and other heavenly bodies, can also be seen. Q The scene is turned to the United Dress Makers Corporation of America. Here we find Mary Paukiz as executive of the firm. It is so large that a private secretary is needed. This capacity is fulfilled by june McKinley. An office staff also is needed, namely, Alice Yost, Edith Fueller, Harriet Lent, Reta Davies, Edith Grove, and Josephine Potoczny. The most important dress makers in the whole corporation are Punky Cook and Grace Deily. Thelma Haselton, our redhead, is the chief model. . Switching again to downtown Pittsburgh, we see a huge building with Jack Sullivan, Mike Krul, William Petkevich, Frank Jeletic and Harry Zutell employed as accountants. Not far from here is the Studio of Artistic Designing, in which Milan Kocerha and Anne Danyla are busily working. Isn't that the Standard Iron and Steel Works of America over there 7 Y 7 Let's peep inside. There's Alphonse Verdi, head of the concern, dictating a letter to Muriel Brannan his secretary. Mary Wowk, Jean Rieseck, Mildred Aronofl, Frances Monath, Edna Jesteadt, and Marion Pfalzgraf are capable assistants. Turning to the mill, John Morgan, we see, has had his dream come truefhe is a big BCSS. How he loves to order Alex Novak, Louis Price and George Doernberger around, In the analyzf ing department can be seen 'the great chemist John Proch. Pd like to see Herron Heightsff-wouldn't you Y 7 7 Bill Gamble is now the owner of a Funeral Home, while Helen Clark is physical education instructor in the Herron Heights High School: Alice Cook and Anna Stevens also are teaching. Cliff Fowler is coaching football here, after finishing school at Howard University. Frances Gordon is a quite efficient nurse. Isn't that the Brighton Country Club off in the distance there ? ? ? -and isn't that Tom jones ? ? ? Why, of course, he is now a professional golfer ! ! ! And there's the home of Joe Gualtieri in which he is raising his large familyfffan ambition fulfilled. He sends his children, I hear, to the Liberty School where Mathilde Williams is kindergarten teacher. fShe is never late anymorej. Switching the glass to the Union Depot we see Jack Frey and Jack Marks about to leave for the Hawaiian Islands. They raise their arms in a gesture of farewell, Frances Black, Harriet Wedlock, and Esther Langhorst are boarding a train for California and points west-Yhut, hold that train ! ! I isn't that somebody trying to climb aboard ? ? ? Looks like Mike Terakgand it is ! ! ! It is beginning to get dark so we must hurry. Quick ! ! I the Stanley Theatre. Here on the stage Bob Rieger and 'Chuck Wcod are singing a duet fsuch harmonyj, and Joanne Vv'och and Rose Gracicia are now a featured dance team. Beth Slaney, Elva Kuschel and George Kinross play in the orchestra. The stage manager and jackfoffallftrades is none other than Frank Senko. Something goes wrong with the apparatus and we can see no more. Idly glancing out of the window we see a car, brand new and the latest model. It is the possession of Peg Euwer who is on her way with Dot lvlason to Jean Burry's ranch in Arizona. fSome funj But something is wrongvit wonlt start . . . But, hush, who is that coming to the rescue ? ? ? It is that johnnyfonfthefspot, Jake Herman, saving the day ! I ! Having seen what their beloved students are now doing, the sponsors smile with pleasure, and with kind memories of the February Class of '36, slowly leave the building.
