Q ', ' 'T Page Seventy-eight The record that Oliver has made in athletics for the school year 193465 is one that has seldom been equaled by any school in the Pittsburgh district. It is particularly outstanding in the fact that every interscholastic team has brought back to the Alma Mater a laurel crown. The first and most prominent of these victories was that of the 'baseball team which brought back the city champion' ship to the Orange and Brown. The team completed the entire season with but one defeat. The second victory was the track and field tie for city championship. The class returned in the Fall and gained the top position in the hard contested footf ball championship, but unfortunately the championship had to be forfeited because of a controversy which might have ref sulted in a disqualification. The last, but by no means least outstanding event was the sectional basketball championship. ' The spirit in which the Oliver student body has participated has been highly commendable. No doubt the success which sports have enjoyed has been due largely to the very fine backing and parf ticipation of the student body as a whole. One of the most sportsmanflike of all acts, foruwhich our school is justly proud is the voluntary applauding of the opposf ing team by the student body. Oliver does not claim this series of victories by the brilliant playing of fourfletter men, for the boys who were the stars in basketf ball were not in the football lineup, and the football stars were not the track stars. A different group of boys participated in each field of sports activity, and made a showing which this school will be more than proud to point out to other schools and to those following us, as a shining example of Oliver sportsmanship.
