59922 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On September 9, 1958, The Freshman Class meeting was called to order by our advisor and Temporary chairman, Mr. Ivan Harshbarger. Officers were elected as follows: John Scott, president, Judy Gruneruud, vice-president, Carol Reinbold, secretary-treasurer, Susan Luiten, ASB Representative, Bobbi Jackson and Jim Haynie, social chairmen. With eager anticipation the frosh built two dummies representing Wilbur football squad members that were to be burned in effigy at the serpentine. Bruce Ottmar was our contribution as escort for the Homecoming Royalty. ln becoming familiar with parliamentary procedure, we voted that we move into The court for classes and flood The school which would Then be used as a swimming pool. This was a mock meeting, of course. We gave a dance after the basketball game with Reardan on February 6, l959. Our class might well be the last group of true DHS students To pass through These sacred halls, for we were The last class to be initiated here. Dressed in odd costumes, going backward Through doors, and carrying seniors' books-we will remember the occasion. Our cave man, Lynda Heitman, cowgirl, Mike Hutsell, and Sergeant Garcia, alias Bobbi Jackson, were awarded prizes for their clever disguises. On September lO, l959, John Scott called the meeting to order, and Carol Reinbold Took over after being elected The new president. Other officers elected were: vice-president, Jim Sorensen, sec.-Treas., Darlene Oertel, student council representative, Judy Clark, social chairmen, Vera Wollin and Jim Loffler. Mr. Harsh- barger again had the privilege of being our class advisor. For the dance that we sponsored after the football'game with Odessa we decorated the auditorium gaily with red and white crepe paper streamers to form a false ceiling, and used small paper footballs to adorn the walls. Our artistic Talents were utilized in designing crowns, in decorating goalposts and the platform for the Homecoming ceremonies. The Homecoming queen's crown was placed on the head of classmate Bobbi Jackson. On May 6, l96O, we gave party night with games, followed by a sock hop in the gym. The Junior Class of l96O-6l elected Mike Hutsell, president, Jim Sorensen, vice-president, Lynda Heitman, secretary-treasurer, Jim Haynie ASB representative, Rita Reinbold, social chairman, Connie Rauch, selling chairman, and Susan Luiten, purchasing chairman. Mr. O. J. Lefevre consented to be our advisor for the year. Trouble in Paradise, a comedy written by Robert St. Clair was produced by the class with Mr. Duane Shelby as director and Connie Rauch assisting him. Unoccu- pied moments for members of the class were scarce. Before we had finished selling pop and candy at football and basketball games, we started plans for the Junior-Senior Prom. lt was voted that the theme would be Harbor Lights which, of course, would be kept a deep, dark secret. Due to differences of opinion, The theme was officially changed to Old Cape Cod. Twelve sophomore boys served the banquet dinner of roast beef and all the trimmins which was planned and prepared by our mothers. The five G-Men from Gonzaga played beautiful music for the dancers in The grade school multi- purpose room which was decorated with murals depicting a fishing wharf and landscape, with driftwood, a lighthouse, and colored lights setting a wonderful atmosphere for our royalty of senior girls. In reminiscing over our days in DHS, none of us will ever forget our Prom. The senior year ofthe Class of T962 was truly a grand finale to the best years of our lives. Mr. Harshbarger rejoined us in an advisory position as Jim Haynie took over the office of president. Judy Clark served as vice-president, Judy Grune- rud as secretary-treasurer, Bobbi Jackson as ASB representative, and Vera Wollin and Jim Loffler as our social committee. This year's uppermost class sponsored a dance after the Grand Coulee football game to celebrate our victory. On Home- coming night, the dance after the game was also sponsored bythe seniors. We were guilty of breaking a semi-tradition by changing the annual Senior Ball to an in- formal Senior Sock Hop at which The DHS Combo produced live music. The senior play The Other You was presented with Mrs. Duane Shelby as director and Connie Rauch as student director. Lockwood Studio of Spokane photographed members ofthe class for decorating the Annual and our homes. After many votes and changes of minds, Saturday, June 2, l962, was chosen to be the big day for the Class of '62. With elation and sorrow, smiles and tears, the thirty-one of us bravely marched into the gymnasium in our scarlet gowns to the band's chords of Pomp and Circumstance To take part in our final ceremony in our beloved DHS.
