TRACK Row T: Gerald Stiles, Dewey Brown, Darrel Teel, Rex Willis, Norm Sierra,4 Ray Bretz, Darrel Abbott. Row 2: Dave Savelesky, Gary Jurgensen, Ron Childs, Jerry Williams, Don Strate, John Scott, Coach Harshbarger. This year the track team participated in five meets, in which ten boys earned their letters. In the opening meet, the Class B Invitational held at Ritzville, Davenport took fourth place. Ron Childs tied for first in the high jump and won first in the broad jump. His jump of 2l3A feet broke the existing record set in 1959. Don Strate won the shot put and Dave Savelesky placed second in the javelin. To help prepare for the Bi-County meet, Dav- enport held a track meet in which seven schools took part. The Gorillas won this meet with Lind, finishing second. The track team, with many first and second place individual winners, captured second place in the Bi-County meet. Norm Sierra placed third in the pole vault. Gary Jurgensen third in the 440, and Darrel Abbott second in the high jump. Dave Savelesky won first in the javelin, Don Strate placed second in the low hurdles and shot put, and Jerry Williams won the high hurdles. Ron Childs took firsts in the 220, broad jump, and high jump. He also set a new record in the high jump. At the district meet ,Darrel Abbott placed second in the high jump. Don Strate finished second in the broad jump and Ron Childs won the broad jump. These performances qualified the three for the Tri-District meet held in Spokane. Ron Childs placed third in the broad jump at the Tri-District meet and qualified for the State Track Meet. Don Strate took fifth in the broad jump. ln the state meet held at Pullman, Ron Childs placed sixth.

The team, undefeated in league play, won the North-side champ,ionship, but lost to Sprague for the Bi-County title.
