BASKETBALL lContinued1 The T944-45 basketball season got under way in the last part of November. By December eighth we played our first game. By Christmas vacation we had five wins and no losses, On January 5, three days after starting to school again, we played the next game. After two more wins we finally met the first defeat from Ritzville. We won one more and then met the second defeat from Reardan. The boys finally decided that was enough, so from then on it was straight wins until the last game of the season which was at the District Tournament when Chewelah brought the third defeat. V The boys won I9 games in all and lost 3, thus taking the Bi-County Championship. The team loses four of the starting five: Hoople, Conrad, Kirkwood and Ball, but with the lettermen Riddle, Ross and Stubbs returning there are prospects of a good team next year. The second string had a good year too, winning five games and losing one. They were led by Bob Buchanan and Wayne Montague. Also putting in their shots were Russell Pankey, Bill Fisher, Ronald Webber and Keith Morgan. All in all the basketball team had a very successful season. We give much of the credit to our coach, Ray Danekas. Also we are not forgetting our manager, Dick Buck, who was always on time with thetowels, and the cooperation and support given by the student body and the townspeople.
