CLASS HISTORY On a very bright morning in September 1941, forty rockets sat waiting at the front door of the Davenport High School, for forty people were starting off on their iourney to four different planets. First stop was Planet Freshman. The forty members by name were: Faye Alexander, Teddy Arsenault, Patricia Bair, Ardythe Ball, Don Ball, Dan Balcom, Harold Boyle, Richard Buck, Betty Campbell, Gerald Coleman, Ray Conrad, Edwina Deppner, Richard Erfurth, Bob Frohnhafer, Faye Green, Sam Hansen, Eileen Harris, Ray Hoople, Carla Horn, Lauretta James, Lorraine James, Glenn Kirkwood, Lois Knack, Evelyn Logsdon, Lila Lilienthal, Eva McCaffery, David McCall, Jessie McCall, Bob Mead, Neva Murbach, Frances Page, Bernice Rohlman, Bob Rummer, Margaret Scharff, Dorothy Schmauder, Dona Jeanne Sims, Jack Sterett, Arnold Thompson, Dorothy Wilke and Elinor Zellmer. When we had found suitable rockets for ourselves, we chose the following officers: President, Ted Arsenault, Vice President, Elinor Zellmer, Secretary-Treasurer, Arnold Thompson, Representative, Bob Mead, Advisor, Mr. Copple. All the boys joined the Boy's Club and girls became members ofthe Girl's Federation. ,Ardythe Ball, Patricia Bair, Dorothy Wilke and Elinor Zellmer were chosen for the Pi Gamma Club, and several ofthe girls ioined the Home Ec. Club. In October we sponsored our first All-Hi dance, the theme of which was Hallowe'en. Eileen Harris was the only member to take part in the All-Hi Play, Almost Eighteen, but several of us helped on the production staff. At the beginning of the second semester Leeta Fichtenberg ioined our rocket squadron to make us number forty-one in all. Before mounting our rockets to start on our summer vacation, we had a picnic at Hawk Creek Falls. Some went swimming, others hiking, and still others played baseball. A good time was had by all even if some of us still remember our tired muscles days later. The last day of school we had our rockets all polished with our names on each telling which belonged to whom. So off we were on a three months' vacation before landing on our second planet known as Sophomore Planet. On Planet Sophomore we elected Don Ball, President, Ray Hoople, Vice President, Eva McCaffery, Secretary-Treasurer, Ted Arsenault, Representative, Mr. Ruberg, Advisor. We found Harold Boyle's rocket vacant but Herb Wiehs was without one so we assigned Harold's to him. A short while after we had started to get used to our new planet Gerald Coleman left his rocket for newer adventures elsewhere. Patricia Bair, Ardythe Ball, Eileen Harris, Carla Horn, Lorraine and Lauretta James, Lila Lilienthal, Eva McCaffery, Dona Sims, Dorothy Wilke and Elinor Zellmer donned the red skirts and white blouses of the A'Kappa Klub after their initiation at the home of Betty Kuchenbuch. Five members of our class were in the All-Hi Play, Your Face Is Familiar. They were: Bob Mead, Arnold Thompson, Bernice Rohlman, Bob Rummer and Eva McCaffery.

cLAss I-nstonv rconfanuedj Blue and silver were chosen our class colors. Many members of our class purchased class sweaters, which were blue with silver numerals. f Patricia Bair left our rocket squadron to ioin another at the end of the first semester, but Faye and Jack Hurdstrom ioined us. Our class sponsored a dance in January for all the other classes. Don Ball was elected vice president of the Student Body, and Bernice Rohlman and Lois Knack, yell leaders, at the student body election held in May. Spring arrived and so our second planet was explored and we had three months to lie around before shooting to what is known as the hardest planet of all to conquer, Planet Junior. As the summer months zoomed by we regained our seat on our rockets and almost went through Planet Junior. We tackled the planet and all agreed that it would be one of the best years of our school life. We started off with President, Ray Conrad, Vice Presi- dent, Don Ball, Secretary-Treasurer, Frances Page, Representative, Ted Arsenault, and Advisor, Mr. Lang. Again we found three rockets vacant whose owners had been: Bob Rummer, Sam. Hansen and Dan Balcom. We soon found new pilots for these but we had gained one extra pilot, so we acquired a new rocket for her benefit. They were: Ruby Campbell, Melvin Emerson, Dick Ekins and Mariorie Tedrow. This year we sold pop and candy bars at the football games, but when basketball season came we discontinued selling of candy and lust sold pop. Class rings were selected and all the members of the class that wanted them bought one. More members ioined A'Kappa and all followed the instructions for initiation to the letter. New members were: Lois Knack, Margaret Scharff, Neva Murbach, Edwina Deppner, Betty Campbell, Frances Page, Faye Green, Faye Hurdstrom, Evelyn Logsdon, Bernice Rohlman, Leeta Fichtenberg and Dorothy Schmauder. Our basket social was held in December with Herb Wiehs as a very good barker, it was a very successful night and the Juniors were all pleased with the profits. At a special class meeting Marjorie Tedrow was elected as assistant editor to the T944 annual and Ray Conrad, as assistant Business Manager. Ardythe Ball left her rocket in November. At the end of the first semester Teddy Arsenault, Herb Wiehs and Jack Hurdstrom left their rockets to become members of the armed services. Ted ioined the Air Corps, Jack, the Navy and Herb, the Marines. One of their rockets was filled when Erlene Smith joined us. Jessie McCall and Faye Alexander were initiated into the A'Kappa Klub in March. Our big success that really conquered was, Wings Over Washington, a mystery play in three acts, presented in February, Each member of the class had a duty to perform whether they were in the play or not. A large profit was made and it put us on the road to a successful prom. X ,xx
