CLASS HISTORY On a very bright morning in September 1941, forty rockets sat waiting at the front door of the Davenport High School, for forty people were starting off on their iourney to four different planets. First stop was Planet Freshman. The forty members by name were: Faye Alexander, Teddy Arsenault, Patricia Bair, Ardythe Ball, Don Ball, Dan Balcom, Harold Boyle, Richard Buck, Betty Campbell, Gerald Coleman, Ray Conrad, Edwina Deppner, Richard Erfurth, Bob Frohnhafer, Faye Green, Sam Hansen, Eileen Harris, Ray Hoople, Carla Horn, Lauretta James, Lorraine James, Glenn Kirkwood, Lois Knack, Evelyn Logsdon, Lila Lilienthal, Eva McCaffery, David McCall, Jessie McCall, Bob Mead, Neva Murbach, Frances Page, Bernice Rohlman, Bob Rummer, Margaret Scharff, Dorothy Schmauder, Dona Jeanne Sims, Jack Sterett, Arnold Thompson, Dorothy Wilke and Elinor Zellmer. When we had found suitable rockets for ourselves, we chose the following officers: President, Ted Arsenault, Vice President, Elinor Zellmer, Secretary-Treasurer, Arnold Thompson, Representative, Bob Mead, Advisor, Mr. Copple. All the boys joined the Boy's Club and girls became members ofthe Girl's Federation. ,Ardythe Ball, Patricia Bair, Dorothy Wilke and Elinor Zellmer were chosen for the Pi Gamma Club, and several ofthe girls ioined the Home Ec. Club. In October we sponsored our first All-Hi dance, the theme of which was Hallowe'en. Eileen Harris was the only member to take part in the All-Hi Play, Almost Eighteen, but several of us helped on the production staff. At the beginning of the second semester Leeta Fichtenberg ioined our rocket squadron to make us number forty-one in all. Before mounting our rockets to start on our summer vacation, we had a picnic at Hawk Creek Falls. Some went swimming, others hiking, and still others played baseball. A good time was had by all even if some of us still remember our tired muscles days later. The last day of school we had our rockets all polished with our names on each telling which belonged to whom. So off we were on a three months' vacation before landing on our second planet known as Sophomore Planet. On Planet Sophomore we elected Don Ball, President, Ray Hoople, Vice President, Eva McCaffery, Secretary-Treasurer, Ted Arsenault, Representative, Mr. Ruberg, Advisor. We found Harold Boyle's rocket vacant but Herb Wiehs was without one so we assigned Harold's to him. A short while after we had started to get used to our new planet Gerald Coleman left his rocket for newer adventures elsewhere. Patricia Bair, Ardythe Ball, Eileen Harris, Carla Horn, Lorraine and Lauretta James, Lila Lilienthal, Eva McCaffery, Dona Sims, Dorothy Wilke and Elinor Zellmer donned the red skirts and white blouses of the A'Kappa Klub after their initiation at the home of Betty Kuchenbuch. Five members of our class were in the All-Hi Play, Your Face Is Familiar. They were: Bob Mead, Arnold Thompson, Bernice Rohlman, Bob Rummer and Eva McCaffery.
