MR. FRED JACOB HETTMAN. Fred Jacob was with us in High School but three years, having attended the first year at Sparta High School, XVisconsin. Of a pleasant disposition, he is held in high esteem by both teachers and school- mates. He is a member of the Crescent Literary Society, having served that society one term as presi- dent. and is also president of his class. ln his studies he has proved himself to be very efficient, but his mind shows a marked tendency toward the sciences and especially is electricity his pet. He considers the laboratory his especial kingdom, and it is as natural for him, while there, to dictate to the others as it is for him to breathe. and for this reason his classmates gave him the cognomen Boss Mr. Hettman w.ill continue his studies along that line and no doubt before many years you will hear of him in connection with science. Miss MINNIE LEVEL. ' Miss Minnie has always attended school at Day enport and is most favorably spoken of by all. Miss Level ranks among the first in her class and especial- ly does she show ability in Latin, and has also won local distinction in elocutionary work, possessing three medals thus obtained. She is a member of the Crescent Literary Society, and one of the most prominent. As president of the organization she guided it successfully through one term. Although she is not very, very large of stature, yet what she lacks in stature she makes up for in fire and deter- mination. For the present she will teach, but the country school is not her goal. Her aims are set high. and be assured whatever she undertakes is certain to be accomplished. 'l'herefore, we predict for her a brilliant future. MISS BERTHA JOHN SON. Miss johnson has spent all of her school days in our city. where she is well known and greatly ad- mired by all. She is a member of the first debat- ing team of the High School, and won a beautiful gold medal at the debate given by the two societies in December. She is a very enthusia.stic member of the Star Literary Society, and has served onelterm as the president of that organization. Miss johnson. who intends to join the large class of teachers. has already taught very successfully 'three months. She is an exceptionally bright young lady, very ac- curate in all her Work and persistent in all her u11- dertakings. Judging her future 'by her past record

. x as a student in the High School, we truly prophecy for her a brilliant success in whatever she pursues. MISS NETTIE HALL. Miss Hall, who is of a rather quiet disposition, is an especial favorite in the class. In class-room work she is most accurate and conscientious. She is also a memher of the Crescent Literary Society, doing excellent work in that organization. Miss Hall is not without a vein of humor, often furnishing amusement for the class. She does not often express her opinions. hut when she does they usually carry conviction. Miss Hall has given out the official statement that she intends to he a professor of mathematics or languages. XYe helieve she also con- templates studying drawing and painting to some extent. having developed some talent along that line. She surely has the qualities to make a success of life, and the old adage Still waters run deep, might well he applied in her case. MISS KATE ROGERS. The class would not he complete without Miss Kate, for she is always ready to laugh at a joke. to offer sympathy in trouhle or to scream if startled hy a mouse or an explosion. Kate is also famous for giving advice, and I am sure we all appreciate it. She is a very diligent worker in school, and as a memher of the Star Literary Society has held the oticice of secretary for three consecutive terms. Miss Rogers has had some experience in 'hook-keeping, and we believe she intends following that occupa- tion for a while. But some give it as their opinion that Miss Rogers is more domestically inclined than otherwise. llowever that may he, Miss Kate will be a credit to whatever place she may occupy.
