Palph Waldo Emerson Class Color Wine Red and Ivory 17 IN MEMORY OF . . . Vincent Larson Vincent was a beautiful baby boy who came into our lives on September 21, 1968. Vincent had a witty sense of humor and was very intelligent. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiles, motor cycles, and music. He had a natural talent for math, and liked to experiment with electrical things. Vincent liked computers, enjoyed games and cards. He had talked about going into the electrical field or perhaps small engines. He also liked farm work. He taught the understanding of love. The Larson's OUR CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS Keith Mortenson There's A Reason For every pain that we must bear. For every burden, every care, There's a reason. For every grief that bows the head, For every teardrop that is shed, There's a reason. For every hurt, for every plight, For every lonely pain-racked night. There's a reason. But if we trust God as we should, It all will work out for our good. He knows the reason. We know that for those who love God, all things work together unto good. OUR FRIENDS FROM A5ROAD . . . SENIOR HIGH As graduation day draws near Their eyes will surely start to tear, For they realize that the end is here And everything becomes quite clear. The friends they made right from the start Will slowly have to turn and part, Yet they'll be there in each others' heart. Although they now are far apart. For as they leave from Senior High They all will hug and say good-bye. But where do all their future’s lie And where will they be when they die? The answers are quite hard to say, At least as it stands today, But in the time some years away They'll be answered in a special way. Some will stay single, some will pair But all will have something to share. They all grew up and learned to care And they will all remember where. It was someplace where they learned to cry It was where they learned to set goals high, And none of them will ever deny That this somewhere was in Senior High, by Jenni Fobbe 25 m SCHOOL BOARD Mary Anderson Director John Hannus Treasurer Karen Humphrey Clerk Russell Johnson Chairperson Niilo Raisanen Vice-Chairperson Bruce Bohnsack Director David Ortquist Director ADMINISTRATION Edward Otto Superintendent Gary Hauan Business Manager Paul Thomas Principal Dale Johnson Asst. This year at Christmas we visited the Dassel Nursing Home. We brought cookies and talked with the residents who didn't have any immediate family. We are planning a trip for sometime this spring, but the destination is still un- known. Also this spring the NHS will help canvas the Dassel-Cokato area in the annual drive for Dollars for Schol- ars. Pres: Daniel Anderson, Advisor: Mr. Enst; Vice President Debra Roepke The D-C Athletic Club would like to thank all parents, fans, and volunteers that supported us through the 1986-1987 sports seasons. ATHLETIC CLUB 84 LIBRARY MDBS Media Center aides are a very vital part of the Media Center. They assist Mrs. Koivula and Mrs. Eggert in many areas. Some of their duties are to check in student passes from prep halls and classes, card books, shelve materials, find magazines, and help students locate ma- terial. One additional duty was added this year to make student copies on our new MITA copier. 1st Sitting: Jeanne Gunnerson, Laurie Juncewski, Naomi Bergstrom, Steve Krueger. The biggest highlight is the STATE VICA Skill Olympics in which club members compete in their areas of expertise against students from all over the state. The first place finishers represent the state of Minnesota at the National Skill Olympics, which this year will be held in Wichita, Kansas. The VICA club is an organization for students in Voca- tional and Industrial Arts programs. Any student taking such classes is eligible to join VICA. The club has been rather small in numbers these past two years but we are hopeful for the coming years. The highlights of the VICA club are working on several different projeas during the year, some are big and some are small. Front Row: Director Barb Rentoul. The purpose of the paper is to provide an extra-curricular journalistic experience for the staff and to educate, entertain, inform, and recognize student accomplishments for the remainder of the student body. The Dassel Cokato Chapter was very active in 1966- 1967. Alan Liepold attended the Washington Leadership Conference. Loren Borchardt and Alan Liepold attend- ed the National FFA Convention in Kansas Gty. Dan Anderson amd Mike Hoernemann received the State FFA Degree. The chapter raised $1,230 in the com drive for Camp Courage. The forestry and general livestock teams will be competing in the state contest. Members sold 1,020 cases of fruit. The chapter farm was very successful with a corn yield average of 141 bushels acre. The highest yield was 168 bushels acre. Back Row: Jason Magoon, Chris Polzin, Shawn Anderson, Joel Johnson, Dean Mahlstedt, Larry Berthieume, Spencer Mattson. The $30 Question is a clone of the Knowledge Bowl. It was established four years ago by students at D-C. The competition is between eight teams with six .members on a team, three Jr. High and three Sr. High students. Through an elimination process, one team becomes the champion and another wins the consolation. Winning Team: Front Row: Steve Aho, Nicole Guenniqsman Back Row: Brian Blackwood, Brett Knoff, Mark Salo, Brian Cowan $30 QUESTION Future problemsolving deals with problems of tomor- row. This year's topics concerned themselves with gar- bage, changing family structures, water, and illiteracy. The team members developed a system of problem solving which can be applied to any problem now and in the future. ACADEMIC DECATHLON For the past four years, D C students have participated in the Academic Decathlon which is competition in ten discipline areas. There are seven timed tests, an essay component, a four minute prepared speech and a two minute impromptu speech. The students compete both individually and as a team of six members. D-C hosted the Regional Tournament, which our students won, thus earning their way to the State Tournament held in New Ulm. The students who participate gain a great deal of knowledge and feel better prepared for college. Academic Decathlon: Front Row: Eric Roscnquist, Tim Hoien, Brenda Peterson, Deb Roepke, Jeff Huotari, Chris Wilde. Back Row: Mrs. Thalberg, Doug Symalla, Steve Huikko, Brian Cowan, Corey Meyer, Craig Holje, Mr. Thomas. The speech team once again had a suc- cessful season. Many of the members in- volved themselves in speech related activities other than the regular varsity tournaments. Such activities were Student Congress, the Voice of Democracy radio speaking contest, and coaching judging for our own junior high team. Those students in grades 9-12 are members of the National Forensic League, in which they earn points to achieve various levels of distinction. One of the high points of the speech team's season was the oppor- tunity to send 16 members to Harvard Uni- versity to participate in a national tourna- ment. The season was highlighted by victories over Monticello, St Cloud Cathedral, and the Buffalo JV. The boys also battled wind and rain which prevented a few matches and practices. Needless to say, W R won all those matches. Leading the Chargers were veterans Terry Halonen (MVP) and Erick Keskey, both fine players over the years. Junior Jeff Huotari was voted Most Improved and youngster Joe Johnson was Rookie of the Year. It was a team that had some depth which in tennis is critical for team victory. Although the DC Wrestling team didn't end up with a very good record 3 8, we wrestled very close meets. We forfeited alot of matches which was a disadvantage, but we still came close to winning some of the meets.
