After receiving commission from Columbia Midshipmen ' s School, the same year. I spent a year at sea and was dis- charged in 1946. In 1947 I joined my present organization where I have done a greaTvariety of Naval research and development work on all aspects of submarine detection bv the use of underwater sound. In 1969, I received the Solberg Award from the American Society of Naval Engineers for outstanding achievement in research and development related to Naval Engineering in the year 1968 . 1 am a Fellow of the .Acoustical Societv of America.
