This was the beginning FOREWORD As the largest freshman class in Dartmouth's history begins its college career it is faced with two important challenges. The first is the acquisition of a truly liberal education and all the friendships, loyalties, and experiences that can accompany such a search for knowledge. The second goal to be sought after is the tempering of well-trained minds and bodies for service to our Nation in its efforts to achieve security. In attaining both of these objectives the ability of men to band together as a unit is of paramount importance. We believe that this volume can serve as a valuable aid in unifying the Class of 1945. It is in the hope that the spirit of friendly cooperation thus obtained may be carried on after graduation when individuals assume the responsibilities of American citizenship, that we dedicate the 1945 Green Book.
