Frankfurt M. Grobc Gallusstrassc, 16, Germany Director. Young Rubicam, International What has it been like to forsake Madison Avenue to live and work in Europe? Unabashed answer—great! An incurable travel addict, I jumped at the chance in 1963 to move from Young Rubicam. New York, to Europe. I joined a small band dedicated to a tough job—to build a Y R operation in Europe. Six years and many headaches later, we have twelve offices with one thousand specialists. There arc eight of us in Continental European Area Management. My work is to gear our offices to serve our International Clients. Quick rewind for background: 1944 Graduation: USNR Midshipmen School followed by Atlantic and Pacific destroyer escort duty. I peeled off Lt. j.g. bars to finish my Master’s at Tuck School. Round one: Training Squad. Macy’s. New York, where I went through the Junior Executive musical chairs for five years. Great experience to have—behind you! Round two: In manufacturing, first as Merchandising Manager, then through the numbers again to graduate five years later as Vice President for Marketing. Round three: In 1956 to Y R. San Francisco, from which I moved in 1961. as Marketing Department Manager, to Account Supervision in New York office and then migration to Europe in 1963. Outside activities? Between travels I pursued interests in two areas—civic affairs and work to make the church more relevant today—particularly in urban problems; as Presbyterian Elder; Chairman, Strategy Committee in San Francisco and New York: Trustee, New York Presbytery, and member of several national commitments. Sports? Now anything aquatic—SCUBA, surfing, sailing, and in the frozen state: serious addiction, skiing. Dartmouth? One of early toilers for Alumni Fund. Later, Chairman of a regional Alumni interviewing Group. Family? One of the last Indians not to have been nailed, I have no tax deductions. How can I? I am always on the move; I can’t deduct a Boeing! PETER BECK “Pete 43 Austin Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire M.D. Ophthalmologist, Private Practice WIFE: Nancy (Mt. Holyoke 1948, Radcliffc. M.A. 1949) After Dartmouth Med School I received an M.D. from Columbia College of Physicians Surgeons interned at the Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington. Vermont. For the next 10 years I served for short periods as ship’s doctor with almost all the U.S. passenger lines based in N.Y.C. I received a second M.D. after a year’s study at the Univ. of Bern, Switzerland and trained for ophthalmology by taking the Basic Science Course at Harvard and residency training at Duke Univ. Hospital and the Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary. I have been in practice in Portsmouth 15 years; the office in my 1790 federal home which I fixed up. I have spent 10 years trying to salvage another 22 room 1812 mansion which was on the verge of ruin. Didn’t get married until I was 35 and am glad I waited for the perfect girl. Until 1969 she continued as an associate editor of the Atlantic Monthly Press and she is the half involved in countless can't say no community activities. 19

Served in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1945 as a corporal. Spent two years overseas in the European Theatre with the First Army from D-Day until the end of the war. Attended Columbia Law School after my graduation from Dartmouth in 1947 and graduated from Columbia in 1950. Have been practicing law in Pittsburgh since 1951. Was Special Assistant Attorney in Pennsylvania from 1955 to 1963. Was Condemnation Attorney for the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh from 1963 to 1968. Am presently engaged in the private practice of law. I am a director of the Capitol Commodity Fund. Inc. Philadelphia Commodity Fund and Keystone Commodity Fund. I was State Commander of AM VETS in Pennsylvania in 1958-1959 and appointed a member of the Pennsylvania Veterans Commission in 1958 and 1959. I am presently Judge Advocate of the Federation of Veteran Societies in Allegheny County, and Vice President of the Squirrel Hill Board of Trade. I have been Treasurer and Vice President of the Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania and at present am active in both enrollment and interviewing. Departed Dartmouth in May 43 for Navy flight training and made a career of it until retirement in July ’64. During this period had a variety of duties including Operational Flying. Flight Instruction, Recruiting, Carrier Duty and Staff billets. Ended up in the Communications business which paved the way for civilian life. Since retirement have lived Northwest of Washington. The first four years included seven trips to Southeast Asia and five to Europe in conjunction with Design of Naval Communication Systems Aboard Ship. Having thus visited about all the places on earth that were missed while in the Navy. Now working with Harbridge House Inc., traveling less and enjoying home and family more. This was brought about by an opportunity to participate in the development of a large scale information system centered in Washington. In 1969 founded MIDSTATE Realty Company of which I am still President and for two years prior to Navy retirement ran a Life Insurance Agency in Norfolk, Virginia. In February of this year became Chairman of the board of Pressure Systems Incorporated of Glens Falls, New York and after negotiating for it to become a subsidiary of the Sinclair Company of Holyoke, Mass., remain a Board Member and Administrative Vice President. 18
