GEORGE FISHER BARR “Bud 53 Hutchinson Road. Walpole. Mass. Proprietor. Management and Communications Consultant WIFE: Betsy (Wheaton 1949). CHILDREN: Robert Alan, 20, Dartmouth. 73; Janet Larkin, 16, Walpole High. 72. The propitious timing (only) of WW2 spared me the probable embarrassment of being thrown out of college. Followed many other D men into the Mountain Troops (10th Mtn. Div.) in Colorado, and was then ordered to Washington because of German linguistics, and there joined a French group of the OSS. Stayed with the OSS until Nov. 1945, seeing Africa, Italy, Romania and a few other odd places. Back to college in March (?) 1946, finishing in 1948. Worked briefly for Gulf Oil, and then joined father in book manufacturing business. Married in 1949 after three year courtship and 1 year engagement. Too damned long!!—but worth the wait. Was General Manager at the Norwood Press until its demise, and then went to Plimpton Press for five years. Left it for job with large consulting firm, Andcrson-Nichols Co. in Boston, at which I was Asst, to Pres. Had extremely varied assignments with Andcrson-Nichols and the Anelcx Corp. with titles along the way of Division Manager, corporate Vice President, and President of the subsidiary company ... ANco Technical Service, Inc. Finally quit fighting the Southeast Expressway, and started own business in 1968. What timing! Currently consulting in advertising, marketing, public relations, and management problems ... including major franchise operations. Being a “yes man” the only way I can review is by giving a simple listing ... with the comment that my yes-ism is still going on. Am a registered and active AHA and NIHOA hockey referee. Director of a Barbershop chorus (Walpole Baystatesmcn), former Town Moderator. Church Vestryman, Board of Governors Walpole C.C., Republican Town Committee, former Director Red Cross, Town Finance Committee. Board of Governors Country Skating Club (USFSA), Board of Governors Walpole Footlightcrs (one of the nation’s oldest theatrical groups), Society of Technical Writers and Publishers. American Institute of Graphic Arts. Bookbuilders of Boston. I steadfastly maintain I am not a joiner! My greatest pleasure has been the active and enthusiastic support of my children's activities ... most of which have been sports orientated. This, of course, involves coaching, etc. What a way to stay young! Vacations spent camping, traveling, and boating. Objective; live another 47 years in order to be able to accomplish half of what I want to do. What a fabulous, vicarious, experience having a son at Dartmouth! He was chosen (elected) Soccer Captain for Pea Green. JOHN WILDER BALL (Deceased) WIFE: Phyllis Left college to enlist in the Navy, August 1942. WILLIAM NATHANIEL BANKS JR. “Bill Temple, New Hampshire Writer After leaving Dartmouth in 1943, I served in Italy, France and Germany with the 36th Infantry Division. When the war ended I entered Yale as a Junior, majoring in Drama; and I graduated, “with philosophical orations” in 1948. For most of the past 20 years Ncwnan, Georgia, has been home base; but for the past five years I’ve divided my time between Georgia and New Hampshire, where I have a house on the green in the village of Temple. In 1959, my play, SEASON OF CHOICE, was produced in New York, and in 1964 another play. The GLAD GIRLS, had a successful run in Atlanta. THE CURATE’S PLAY, which I wrote for St. George’s Episcopal Church in New York, has been published by The Dramatists Play Service; and every Christmas it’s performed by churches of various denominations across the country. I have enjoyed several productive sessions at the MacDowcll Colony, an artists' colony in Peterborough, N.H. of which I am now a director. I’ve been active in YMCA work in Georgia, and I am a niember of the Methodist Church of Grantvillc. Ga. The Monadnock Region of Southern New Hampshire, where I now spend much of my time, offers such diverse pleasures as skiing, hunting, outdoor and indoor tennis, gardening and concert-going (there is an annual chamber music festival), and I take enthusiastic though unskilled part in all these activities. 16
