CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1951, the core of this year's senior class arrived at Darrow to begin their four-year pull to graduation. This group, consisting of Cliff Baxter, Paul Huang, Don Jones, Thorn Lord, Dusty Merrill, Brewster Morgan, Peter Salsbury, Tom Thompson, and John Welling, was an energetic crowd, and was often seen either hunting fc: potsherds and artifacts on the side of the mountain under the direction of Mr. Watson, or crowding around Mr. Ritter and his telescope on the front lawn, each of the boys clamoring for his tm'n to see the crater on the moon. Thus, the year passed rather quietly except for the occasional cavortings of the more spirited upper-classmen. The next fall, our little circle was joined by Don Bahrenburg, Andy Carnwath, Chuck Chermside, Hargie Heap, Bruce Hoag, Doug Leslie, Tom Sargent, Hans Sohnssen, Bill Stratton., and Dan Wayne. This was the year of the Turkish Harem of Room 34 in Wickersham House, and also of Bill Stratton's involuntary haircut. One of the highlights of the spring season was the performance of the Pirates of Penzance with Foxhollow School. During the rehearsals and two performances, many liaisons were made, which in turn led to a few un-authorized excursions to Lenox. The year was terminated in a series of cannon-cracker events which, we believe, will never be forgotten by those who took part in them. The following year, there were so many additions to our class that it became the largest in the school. The new additions were Bob Congdon, Cy Fitch, Dave Francis, Dick Furman, George Gordon, Don Gray, Mike Harvest, Frank Lloyd, Topher Nye, and Mark Williamson. During that year, many of us got carried away with ourselves. It was our junior year, and we thought we had come a long way. An example of this was the mass exodus of the majority of Latin II from the Latin room closet to the chant of Onward Christian Soldiers in the middle of a Caesar recitation. After that, the year passed quietly. We were partially redeemed in the eyes of the school by the initiative of Hargie Heap in his coping with the water shortage. IO
