54 STUDENT BODY OFFICERS, SECOND SEMESTER- Front row: Kenneth Estes, Vice Presidentg Daryl Ed- wards, President. Standing: Carter Barker, Secretary Ralph Kuntz, Treasurer. s The Student Body after victory at State Tournament. CHAMPIONS Have you noticed the preponderance of basketball pic- tures? The reason-Weire State Champions and this is the championship edition preserving this event in pictures. Nothing like it. Well, any excuse from a foe of Dar- rington can never explain exactly why a team from the hills could ever go to State. We, here with the boys, can explain it with one sentence: 4'They played as a teamfi Thatis where Mr. Simmons comes in. You can't say he rules with an iron hand because he doesn't have to, he only tells them what to do and they do it. That is what makes a real team. Sure they practiced hard, but, the fun they had more than made up for the difference-the banquets. the hotel rooms, the elevator-operators, newspaper pressmen who kept the girls at their prettiest. Cheese! Only kidding: put down the hairbrush. The joys and memories the boys will hold dear to them for many years to come were not even dampened when they arrived home to find not a soul to greet them. Every- one in Darrington who could hitch or sneak a ride was still in Tacoma celebrating, bragging, and considering themselves extremely lucky to be from the Home of the Champs. But when everyone got back home, we did have our welcome-a community-wide banquet in the Community Center. Take a look at the pictures of it.

ul The upcoming youngsters include Allan Rensink who has an eye for a picture. Jud Knighten, extravagant with his film, and Pete Knighten who is going to be a valuable staff photographer as soon as he learns to square himself with his teachers when he is going to miss class. We keep Herbie and Bill around to make life interesting-it was especially interesting when they used the blower for a squirt gun. This is a busy gang which has plenty of fun. They intend spend- ing the summer devising a deadly trap for picture thieves. Photography Class - Back, left to right: Jud Knighten, P e t e Knighten, Bill Bennet. Front: Recd Miller, Tom Doan, Herbie Hunter. The MWatch the Birdie boys met Monday nights this year and are responsible for the pictorial history of the school year. Mr. Reed Miller Esq. has been the big wheel busy with Mthe speedi' on all occasions. If he could find a flash guaranteed always to flash, and film changers guaranteed to change film, his life would be happier. Also, his sponsor's life would be happier if he did not go to track meets and on fishing trips.
