Brown EDITORIAL STAFF To prepare the Jabberwokk, there are numerous details to be discharged. These preparations include the gathering, assem- bling, and editing of written material, pic- tures, et cetera. The students are essentially responsible for the gathering of material. From this point onward, the staff is essential. To achieve well these preparations for the printer, the cooperation of faculty, students, and staff is necessarily required. THE DARLINGTONIAN Mrs. John Vardaman The Darlingtonian, the student news- paper, is published six times during the school year and once during the summer. The Darlingtonian serves a three-fold pur- pose. First, it gives students an opportunity to participate in the editing of the paper. Secondly, parents have an opportunity to understand better the activities of the school. Thirdly, alumni are able to keep abreast of the activities of the school. The D Club is composed of all students who have earned a letter in a varsity sport. The purpose of the D Club is to promote good fellowship and sportsmanship among the students. Fisher Ever since l925 when the Y began, it has grown with the school and created a fine spirit of trust between the students and faculty. Today the Y has many activities such as conducting the devotionals at morning assembly, holding special services at Thanks- giving and Christmas, running the concession stand at football games, and, at the end of the year, giving to the school a worthwhile gift. All this in addition to the regular Sunday and Nllfednesday night services and the individual prayer meetings, held on the halls before lights, are the duties which the Y has readily responded to. The Y.M.C.A. is a student organization to which its members are electedg it takes Gods help and the co-operation of all to make it successful. Since 1915, the Honor System has been an impor- tant phase of the campus life at Darlington. The code of The Honor Council states that it is the expression of the desire of the faculty and student body to play fairly the game of living togetherf' The Honor Council itself is a group of representa- tives chosen by each class. This group works as a committee to see that the affairs of the Honor System are carried out properly. To make the Honor System effective requires the co-operation of every member of the faculty and student body. The pledge of support from these groups is given at the installation of the Honor Council. The Honor System expresses the idea of a gentlemens agreement with faith and trust in allg It also expresses an attitude against the violation of that trust. COMMITTEE Miss Beverly Blick The function of the Social Committee at Darling- ton is to plan and decorate for all of the social activi- ties during the school year. The committee is com- posed of juniors and seniors who devote a great deal of time to the preparation of the school dances. The Social Committee is a student organization which receives no financial aid of any kind from the school. Its main objectives are the planning and decorating of the Christmas and Spring Formals, and the dance and Final Ball during Senior Weekend. The Glee Club under the very excellent leadership of Mr. Vforth Moser has been for many years one of the most outstanding and most popular organiza- tions at Darlington. The group meets daily during the fourth period in the Recreation Room, and the time is spent in learning both sacred and secular music. Most of the boys who try out for the Glee Club know little about the technicalities of singing, but during the course of the year, they learn a great deal about voice training, harmony, solo work, and everything that goes along with choral singing. Tiger Bobby jack- son scored Darlington's lone TD. Coach jim Doss was highly complimentary of the team's defensive work. The front wall held the opposition to a -38 yards. DARLINGTON C.M.A. C.M.A. took advantage of two breaks to down Darlington 12-O. A Tiger miscue and a deflected pass provided C.M.A. with the lead which the Cadets managed to hold in spite of Tiger runs of 25 and Sl yards. The final period was largely a booting con- test with both defenses doing good jobs. DARLINGTON C.H.M.A. Castle heights handed the Tigers their second set- back of the season. Darlington held the Cadets to a scoreless clinch at the half, and it looked as if the high-spirited Tigers were going to take over. A Tiger fumble gave the Cadets a TD in the opening minutes of the second half. The score was nullihed by an infraction, but the Cadets connected on the next play with a pass and scored. The Cadets carried a punt by l.anier for the second touchdown. jackson led the rally on offense and Moss was the defensive standout. DARLINGTON GORDON Darlington floored Gordon in a 19-0 comeback. After a hard-fought, evenly matched first half, the teams remained in a scoreless deadlock. Chuck Hux- ford crossed the double-stripes for the first score. The Tigers scooped up a Gordon fumble and carry- ing the ball alternately Jackson and Huxford bounded to the opponents 4 yard-line, and Huxford claimed six points for the Tiger team. Safetyman Frank Robins snagged a Gordon pass and scurried to the 19. jackson terminated a drive to the 3 with a score. Bill Lanier added the PAT. Moss, Green, and Mathis stood out on defense. Hampered by the loss of nine post- graduate starters, the Tigers were overidden by the anxious Atlantans. john Diprima stood out both of- fensively and defensively, and reserve back Jim Lam- beth stood out on defense. DARLINGTON T.M.I. Darlington and Tennessee Military Institute clashed in an indecisive battle which was marred by mud, rain, and cold. Lanier failed in an attempt for a fieldgoal in the second period. The soggy underfoot- ing prevented a single long run. Defensive play was outstanding for both teams. DARLINGTON C.H.M.A. C.H.M.A. scored its second victory over Darlington in a hard-fought contest. Frank Robins hooked a Cadet punt and scurried down the sidelines for 85 yards and the score. Robins had previously returned the third Cadet kick-off 50 yards to begin his long- run performance. The Tigers were hampered by flu and injuries. DARLINGTON MCCALLIE A large group of alumni supported the Tigers in the traditional bout with McCallie. The game ended in a scoreless tie, but there was plenty of excitement for the old grads. The game was, in reality, a kicking duel between Bill Lanier and the Tornado quarter- back. In the second period a 27-yard punt return and two passes put the Tigers on the McCallie 20. Dar- lington used Butch Martin in a fieldgoal attempt that fell short just as the hrst half ended. In the second half a Tornado fumble was covered by mammoth Tiger tackle, Homer Mathis. Only once did McCallie penetrate the Darlington 50. That came in the final period when they reached the 40, but the McCallie quarterback found himself in his oft-repeated role of punter. Al- though Darlington did not end with top place in the mid-South, it had one of the best balanced clubs. Every one of the big five was a potential scorer. Led by jerry Stubblefield, the Tigers scored 659 points against the opponents' 685. Steve Dean, though yield- ing inches to his opponents, was Darlington's top rebounder, followed by Fletcher Somers. Outstand- ing in ball handling and defense were Phil Powell and Davie Franklin. Next year's cagers should be a contender for top place in the mid-South with Powell, Somers, Morris, and Wherry returning. 4.11 Q .. Franklin rebounds!
