Steward Lyman was second in R.B.lfs as he . played his second season at left Held. He hit three home runs against T. M. I. to clinch the flag for the Tigers. ln center field. Bob Griffin led several Come- backs with his bat and speed aboard the bases. t Skip Thornton and Bob Goodson shared the rigth field position to round out the first nine. except for Big Burk. v w 4 l i Burkhalter won six games for the Tigers. in- A X ,W W. X 1' cluding a shut-out over Baylor. He fanned 72. ix gave up 22 hits and had an E.R.A. of 54. He hit im fv 5 up V. .272 and drove in eight runs. John Capell Backhanrls '55 varsit tennis Being a comparatively new venture at Darlington School. the swimming team got off to a late start being coached by Mr. Doak .The boys have worked hard. however. training at the pool in Lindale four days a week. The group consists of 22 boys. Among the promising swimmers on the team are Pheil, McCarthy. Greene. Downey, Alexander. Covington, B.. and Godard. So far no meets have been sched- uled but Coach Doak says that one or two are planned for after Spring Vacation. He is sure that we will make a good showing. The boys now participating in the swimming program are Alexander, Brown. L., Cates, Clark. W.. Conrad. Cooke. Covington. Geiger, Godard, Greene. Grimsley, Hitch. Huii, McCarthey, Nelson, Nichols, Patton, Pheil. Gaines. and Downey. C. 99
