Then football season started, and we watched and cheered while our team swept to a Mid-South championship. After the foothall season was over, we came to life with a jolt and realized that the Christmas holidays were hut a few short weeks off. The vacation went by like a flash, and we were back at school, preparing for Mid- Terms, which were navigated for the most part successfully, and we hreathed a sigh of relief. The first Tiger touchdown came in the middle of the first quarter as the result of a 32-yarrl drive with liussell going oyer from the 4. A few plays later, Moore inter- cepted a pass on the G.M.A. 35 and returned to the 25. l our cracks at the line took the ball to the three where Iiussell went over. DAHLINGTON I9 G.M.C, 6 The Darlington Tigers gained southwide recognition when they defeated one of the strongest junior colleges in the South on Friday night, October 25, on Barron Feld. The first quarter was played on even terms with both teams fumbling several times since the field was quite wet. ln the final two minutes ol' the second stanza, G.M.C. marched to the Darlington 35, where Davis rilied a pass to Mitchell on the Tiger 20 who went over standing np. The extra point was no good. After taking the kickoff, to the Darlington 42, Moore threw a pass to Felker on the C.M.C. 40 for a first down. Then with 10 seconds left to play in the half, Moore threw a pass to llarvin on the 5, who in turn stepped across for a score. linssell booted the extra point and Darlington led 7-6 at half time. A new, inspired Darlington team came on the field after the half, and after pushing G.M.C. over the field, marched to the C.M.C. 29 in the middle of the third quarter. XVith only a weeks practice. the .I,V. tangled with Model High and lost, -14-0. Two more weeks of practice, however, brought great improvements in the ranks, and the Baby Tigers tied a strong Summerville eleven 0-0 in Suininerville. The only win of the season was a 33-0 landslide over Cave Springs. Nlodel inet and defeated the lI.V. again 25-0. This was followed hy an 18-13 loss to the Riverside .I.V. The .l.V. fell lmcfore Tallapoosa. 20-7, in Tallapoosa. For their last encounter of the season the j.V. journeyed to Trion and lost 38-0. This game was played without the services of practically the whole first squad. Outstanding this year were: Andrews and Massey in the hackfielcl, while Fowler.
