Cooypez OHN PAUL COOPER was born rn Rome Georgra July 27 I858 l-lrs mother the former Mrss Harrret Smrth had marrred Captarn John Frederrclc Cooper who was lcrlled rn the trrst battle ot Manassas After the death ot hrs tather John Paul made hrs home durrng the summer months wrth hrs grandfather Major Mark Cooper at Glenholly near Cartersvrlle Georgra Durrng the wrnter he lrved wrth hrs mother rn by Mr John M Proctor he trrst came under the rntluence ot Joseph James Darlrngton who was at that trme assocrated wrth Mr Proctor rn the school Mr Darlrngton even tually entered the legal protessron however durrng the trme he was connected wrth the Proctor School as teacher and counselor the torce ot hrs personalrty rmpressed rtselt unalterably upon the lrves of the boys who came under hrs rntluence Not only hrs scholarly attrrbutes but hrs loyalty to the trnest rdeals and hrghest standards ot personal conduct left therr marlc tor good upon hrs students When rn late years John Paul Cooper founded a school for the boys ot Rome he named rt Darlrngton School as a trrbute to hrs former teacher and lrte long trrend On June 6 I889 Mr Cooper marrred Mrss Alrce Allgood a young lady of charm and drstrnctron Alrce Allgood was born September 25 l865 Her mother Mary Marsh Allgood was a natrve ot North Carolrna Her 'Father Andrew P Allgood had come from South Carolrna and rn 1843 founded the Trron Mrlls at Trron Georgra Three years prror to hrs marrrage Mr Cooper had gone to Boston Massachusetts where he entered busrness wrth Mr Charles Brush torm ng the trrm lcnown as Cooper and Brush He had for personal reasons determrned to lay the toundatrons of hrs busrness rnterest rn the East and for many years after therr marrrage Mr and Mrs .
