Success At Its Best The 1987 football team pulled off a very successful season of 12-1. With the attitude, effort, and dedication the Birds put forth, the team pulled off a conference championship, the first in fourteen years, not to mention a State title. Coach McArthur's team was full of talent this year. Each mem- ber carried a very important role on the team which made this team num- ber one. Dean Wagner pulled through the season as leading rusher followed close behind by brother Tony. Matt Lo- ken, guarded by a great offensive line of Seniors; Lance Lansing, Mike Harper, Pat McGettigan, Keith Rielly, and Cliff Burgess along wifh Junior Nick Roelli, put many points on the scoreboard. This year's All Conference teams were dominated by Redbird team mem- bers. The team had a total of fourteen positions along with Special Mention which went to newcomer Mike Harper. Leading the list was Dean Wagner who earned MVP along with 1st team full- back and defensive tackle. Pat McGettigan also captured two 1st team positions with guard and line- backer. 1st team linebacker and 2nd team guard was awarded to Keith Our success is equal to the success of our off season work. -Coach McArthur Rielly. Cliff Burgess snagged fhe center position on the 1st team. Other 1st team members were Lance Lansing at tackle, and Aaron Lancaster at defen- sive back. Those players receiving 2nd feam honors on the SWAL team were Matt Loken, linebacker; Dale Ray, tackle and defensive end; Craig Kom- prood, mid-guard; and Tony Wagner, halfback.
