To get in shape for the season, some of the members were even practicing during the summer. The following girls scored a team record of 195 against Shullsburg. Karen Purcell was low with 44, next Penny Nybrotten had 49, Dee Hesseling 50, and Jean Rasmussen 52. Each year a inter-squad tournament is held between the girls of the team for a trophy. On October 18 the tournament was held and Dee Hesseling and Karen Pur- cell tied for it. Karen Purcell was voted team captain by her fellow teammates. The team also had four letter winners: Penny Nybroten, Karen Purcell, Dee Hesseling, and Jean Rasmussen. After the season was over, the entire team enjoyed a party at the Pizza Hut for all their hard work and en- thusiasm. Day 2, 11A

Welcome home Ron! Officials Jim Huston, and Dennis Murphy proved that officials played an important part in any baseball game. LETTER WINNERS: KNEELING; Joe Dorman, Jim Bertolini, Terry Kiester, Bryce Blaser. STANDING; Jerry Kilcoyne, Doug Holmes, Tim Everson, Jim Huston, John Reichling, Tom Grimme. The Redbird Baseball team • was led by 3 seniors, Ron Coffey, Dave Larson and Curt Wang, who added sta- I bility to an otherwise young : and inexperienced team. The team fought off an 8 I game losing streak to win 5 • out of their last 7 games, finishing with a 7 win and 12 loss record. One of the highlights of the season came | in the Regional Champion- • ship game against the Blackhawk Conference • Champions, Belmont. The • Redbirds came through with : a convincing 16 to 4 victory • to advance to sectional play • at Lancaster. Curt Wang was chosen • team captain of the 1976 squad and sophomore, John Reichling was voted most valuable player by his team- • mates.
