Throughout the 1969-70 school year, we, the students at Darlington High School made friends and got to know each other's personalities, gripes, and opinions. We learned to be natural and, in most cases, honest with each other. This is summed up in the last part of our theme-- We like being us . Only after we have learned to be us , can we understand the full meaning of the first part-- We like living . By living is meant not only the fun-to-do things of life —dances, dates, making friends, traveling, or getting presents for Christmas or your birthday from someone special, etc.--but also the hard-to-bear things that happen to us--the death of a relative or friend, cramming for exams, losing your job, or having your best friend move away. Because these are part of everyone's life, learning to accept them and recog- nizing the hidden good in them can only help to make the years of the future more pleasant and re- warding. And we can only learn to accept reality when we have thrown away our false personalities and learned to be ourselves. The pictures on this and the following pages show some of the many phases of school life in DHS. Sports events, dances, Homecoming festivities, working on projects, crazy fads and our wild Grub Days , phy ed classes with the uneven bars, the one- act play that competed at the state contest, and getting out of school for home football games are all represented here and were welcome diversions from the school day. 4
