Its purpose is to give instruction to students of vocational agriculture and to develop experience in farm- ing as an occupation. In this organization mem- bers learn how to conduct meetings, to speak in public, to cooperate and work together and to bear responsibility. Our Chapter of Future Farmers of America was organized ten years ago. Since that time it has steadily grown until it is now one of the largest chapters in this section of the state. Mr. McNett, our instructor and advisor, has been an invaluable aid to us and under his able supervision we hope to reach notable ac- complishments. The presentation of the two-act light opera, Pioneer's Papoose, on March 4 and 5 won im- mediate acclaim as one of the finest presenta- tions of its kind ever performed on the D.H.S. stage. Talented actors, actresses and singers starring amid a beautiful stage setting and colorful lighting effects, accompanied by fine orchestral music, created a polished produc- tion which will lonq be remembered. The story centered around the peaceful tribe of the Tomahawk Indians who lived in the western wilderness surrounded by beauti- ful lakes and mountains. Upon arrival of the pioneer who was seeking the war-like arrow- head tribe on a quest of vengeance, the peace of the Tomahawks ceased. War with the Ar- rowheads: their ultimate defeat, and the joyous reunion of the pioneer with his long lost son climax the story. The principals in the cast were: Bernard Wiegel . . . . . Chief Tomahawk Larry Armstrong .. .. Prince Whiteface Peter Gilbertson . . . . . Layemout Richard Buschor . . . . . Pioneer Pat McCarten .. .. Waltzie Audrey Howe . . . . Lillamush Corolyn Curry . .. . . Moonfair Shirley McConnell . . . . . Starshine Isabel Benedict . . . . . . Bowbright Werner Liechti . . . . . From the first day of school in the fall to the last day of school in the spring, the bandroom of Darlington high is the busiest spot in the building. From the shrill tones of the piccolo to the deep tones of the bass - from the first clarinet to the last cornet, each member is taught the fundamentals, aided and encour- aged along the way by Mr. Wood who. inci- dentally, is considered tops by all. The high school band peps up the football games and basketball games, puts on a few concerls each year to show their skill in the classical line of music and, on the whole, do their best to make all activities a success. For the past few years it has been their goal to have new uniforms. On March 27th of this year that goal was realized. They are really all they hoped for, and each and every mem- ber is proud to wear his, and show that he, too, is part of that fine organization, the Darling- ton high school band. An annual is a great invention: The school gets all the fame, The printer gets all the money, And the staff gets all the blame. The Pekatonika staff of '47 began their weeks of work early in the fall, hoping we could cap- ture many ot the exciting events taking place. This year's staff was made up of Mary Martin, Editor: Ioe Ruppert, Assistant Editor: Audrey Howe and Corolyn Curry, Feature editors: Dick Power, Sports editor and drawings: Bernard Weigel, Sports editor: Iohn Hicks and Mike Canan, Photography: Werner Liechti and Carl Putman, Business managers: Marilyn Stout, Senior class editor and drawings: Doris Bene- dict, Iunior class editor: loan Havens, Sopho- more class editor: Bill Rotzoll, Freshman class editor: and Iune Bredeson and Ardith Troy, typists. The teachers who were the advisors on this year's annual staff were Miss Theobald, Mrs. Benedict, Mr. Wood, and Mr. Stevenson. You now know who to blame for this so-called masterpiece. We've tried, honestly, to give you the best yearbook possible. We hope you will like the 1947 Pekatonika, not for the outstand- ing write-ups and articles, but because it's your annual - about you, your friends, and espe- cially your school, the best school of all.
