Safety Patrol Who re-routed the detour by the by-pan? Leaning against the walls at strategic points along our corridors are fifteen of the toughest-looking, meanest-sound- ing boys that one could find in the Senior and junior classes. Not too near the end of each period these boys drag them- selves away from their classes to their posts. With glassy eyes set and legs crossed nonchalantly, they remain imper- turbable while The Masses swarm by, only to come alive to give a warning word or an occasional detention. John, Skippy, and Randy: Typical street scene, select and well-trained group, under the direction of Mr. Crandall and Captain Charlie Chapman, has the job of keep- ing the Juniors, Seniors, and other remaining animals from breaking their necks during the five-minute rush periods. Without the Traflic Squad, chaos would rule our halls, wasted time and senseless injuries would eventually result. As usual, this year's Latin Club, our toga clad race, has represented the more classical-minded members of the school, and their antics have born this out admir- ably. Ruled by consul Butch Buchs and advised by Miss Stone, the Latin Ones celebrated the Saturnalia in true festive style. The high point of the season was, how- ever, the annual Roman Banquet presented sumptu- ously fand authenticallyb. Clad in togas strongly re- sembling sheets and languishing imperiously on their Pale of a poor parker, pighead processional. left elbows, the patricians, humbly served by sopho- more slaves, gorged a banquet ranging Ab ova ad mala or, as we plebeians would say, From eggs to apples. The entertainment, consisting of a brawny wrestling exhibition and two alluring oriental dancers, followed the solemn ritual of offerings to the gods, and closed the revels on a colorful and interesting note in the manner of ancient Rome. Rich and Miss Spamer: Felicidades, you have just been vm is............-1 named Queen for a Day. - we 'wr F'- EI Circulo Espanol Through the colorful activities of El Cir- culo Espanol, various aspects of Spanish- American life are brought to Darien High. Under the guidance of Miss Spamer and Pres- ident Richard Saverine, members gain new impressions of their South American neigh- bors through several speakers and films uti- lized by the club throughout the year. In the spring, the norteamericanos take in a Span- ish show and meal during the Club's annual junket to Nueva York. This encounter with strange delicacies, familiar beverages, and dramaticos hispanoamericanos highlights the activities of the year.
