The future isn ' t as uncertain as it appears, as there ' s still a prophet breathing upon this colorful globe — ME! Young am I, but well informed on the subject. For I am a conscientious believer in astrologial superstitions and an observer of constellations. One starry night I sat on the steps gazing up at the heaven ' s living diamonds, hoping they would reveal the prospects for the future of the seniors graduating from Darden High, 1952. Occasionally one may interpret a meaningful prophecy. That night the brighter stars were clustered, filling one fourth of the glittering sky. This, to me, indicated a brighter tomorrow during the next quarter of the century. Bit by bit, I interpreted more. Generally, our little talents that were discovered in high school were to be developed gracefully. My smoothest, free-spoken mates in school would become successful social workers; my fussy, debate-happy, chums shall find convenient hot-air outlets as lawyers and judges. The scientists, nurses, doctors, and pharmacists were the seniors interested in Hygiene and sciences in high school. Most of the girls will become wonderful house wives. I can ' t readily call them house- wives, as there shan ' t be houses as such. Houses then (1975) will be intriguing laboratories, and wives will be nothing short of scientists. They shall have to gauge atomic cooking meters very precisely. If not, who, they ' d have carbon instead of the intended roast beef for dinner! They ' ll have to serve the proper amounts of atomic vitamin tablets to the kiddies daily, plus having to watch the other atomic household operations. Other seniors shall build future America , structurally. There will be a profusion of archi- tects, brick masons, and carpenters, who have received their beginning lessons right herein Darden. With the .energy, courage, zeal, and intelligence of this senior class, Old Man Future is ours exclusively, to mould as we are able to, and as we see fit. It can and shall be shaped into a great success for us, as it has for others.

The present senior class started out as freshmen in the year of 1948. We were an extreme- ly large group; therefore, we had to be divided into three divisions under the supervision of Mr. J. E. Dixon, Mr. E. R. Bryant, and Mr. O. W. Harris. Addie Clark, Raymond Harris, and Mamie Reynolds were presidents of the respective divisions. The two most important events of our freshmen year were: the Intramural Basketball Tournament, in which the trophies went to the girls in Mr. Harris ' group and the boys in Mr. Bryant ' s group, and the Annual Dramatic Tourna- ment. Having presented the best play, The Farmer ' s Daughter, Mr. Harris group was also the recipient of this trophy. The next year as sophomores, we had for supervisors Mr. C. W. Hines, Mr. D. H. Atkinson and Miss B. E. Cartwright. Presidents- of the respective groups were Joan Bynum, Evangeline Reid, and Arnold Walker. Mr. Hines ' girls won the Intramural Basketball trophy that year The most important event of the year for us was the Homecoming parade. The prettiest float was made by Miss Cartwright ' s class. The Biology Award went to Arnold Walker. The next year found us entering school as juniors. Though we were divided into three groups (for the sake of records) with Mrs. J. B. Harris, Mr. O. W. Harris, and Mrs. O. W. Barnes as our supervisors, we organized as one big group for convenience in our class function. Shirley Best was elected president of this group. We worked faithfully and co-operatively in making our Night in Hawaii on Prom night as real and as much fun as possible. At the end of the year many of us were recipients of various awards and scholarships; among this group were: Helen Barnes, Marian Sewell, Ruth Hart, George Little, Benjamin Harris, and Shirley Best. Herman McNeil was elected captain of the football team and Raymond Harris capatin of the basketball team. Now we are in our senior year. We have come a long way since that day in 1948 when we entered the high school department. Though this climb was a hard struggle, we realize that the goal we are now about to reach was worth it. We are proud of ourselves and are striving to make our last year the happiest and best of all under the supervision of Mrs. M. H. Miller and Mrs R L Williams with Shirley Best as our president. Featured among our activities this year was ' the presentation of Sonis, and operetta, and the annual senior banquet. Having outstand- ing musical talent, James Farmer, Milton McPhail, Roosevelt Ellis and Clarence Ellis organized themselves into a singing group called the Seniorities. Singing popular hit tunes and some spirituals this group entertained at many occasions. Outstanding gridders among us this year were Joseph Davis, Willis Swinson, Albert Cannady, Charles Rountree, William White, Frank Barnes, Nathaniel Robinson, James Brown, Jimmie Ellis, Moses Worsely, Herman McNeil, Raymond Harris, and Hiawatha Robinson. This senior class goes down on record as the largest Darden High has ever had.
