SECOND ROW: Jock Walker, Paul Cocklin, John Swank, Carl Cocklin, Marvin Nance, Coach Mr. Arnett. There were 15 boys who went out for football this year. But unfortunately four dropped out. Football practice started on August 20, 1955. We played two preview games September 10 at the coliseum at Circ leville. Our first was with Pickaway which we won 6-0. Our second game was with Jackson which we lost 6-O. Following are the scores, dates, and teams with which we came up against: Septerrber 16, Ashville 42-6, September 24, Jackson 20-6, Octo- ber '1 , Williamsport 6-14, October 8, Pickaway 6-13, October 15, Walnut 0-20, October 29, Stoutsville 6-12. Darby tied for second place with Jackson. We think we had a pretty fair team seeing that this was our first year playing football. Next year we hope to be in first place. 62

ootfalf 662221444214 061955 The high school didn't have time to elect football cheerleaders, so the basketball cheerleaders of the latter season took over the honors. At the start of the football season, five cheerleaders started the season knowing nothing about football. But as the season advanced, we started to see the light. We wore white wool sweaters, and on our own we finally pur- chased black wool slacks to help us keep warm on those chilly nights. We enioyecl it after we learned a little about the game. Football cheerleaders were as follows: Sally Hicks, .lo Ann Kennard, Janet Wolfe, Janet Puckett, and Sarah .lane Liff. Sally Hicks 63
