N.. English is taught to the students of D.H.S. by Mrs. Louise Dollens, Mrs. Mildred Hoge, Mr. Bill Kassis, Mrs. Jeanette Kraft, Miss Susan Page and Mrs. Mable Pritchett. Beginning with this year, the Senior English department was divided into college preparatory and Business English classes. The courses offered during the four years of high school are Speec Grammar, Literature and Composition. Aside from the regular English courses, a student may take Journalism, taught by Mrs. Vivian Gilham, for extra training in newspaper work. As Russell Leach gives his book report, his classmates listen with interest. Speech Zleaelapt Slfdla at Spwlemq The team of Jim Disney and Terry Chandler give their refutation, while Jill Crise and Becky Parsons think of possible questions to ask them. This year DHS became a member of the Forensic Debating League, which enables speech students to participate in debate and speech contests. The Jury- Room, a three-act mystery, was presented by the speech class on October 26? 1962. A spring variety show was also presented jointly by the Speech Club and the music department. Yesterday prepares us for tomorrow might well be the motto of the social studies classes at DHS. In the four classes of social studies, pupils learn that history repeats itself and prepares us for tomorrow. Courses of citizenship and U.S. Government prepare students to face the responsibility of an American citizen, while World History and U. S. History teach them how their ancestors organized and upheld their governments. History classes are taught by Mr. Burns Becht, Mr. Keith Greve, Miss Wanda Keck, and Mr. Robert Leedy. 7IZa,tfv-74 fam fam ffiqw Sdwatiora I t N ' .4 nm Don Ritchey shows the class how a simple algebra problem is worked. Rosemary Helton, Fern McElwain, Henry Cox, Edward Etienne and Russell Kirts try to stimulate interest and guide the students through the math courses. Helping the students to make better use of these languages are Miss Wanda Keck of the Spanish department and Mr. Bill Kassis of the Latin department. fyHabla usted espanol? 34 Om ffm 7+ Business courses at DHS provide students with the opportunity to further their knowledge of general office practices and to improve their basic skills. The Seniors swell with pride as they realize that they are the first class to complete the full' four years of high school in the new building. They entered as green Freshmen and now they are leaving with a reservoir of knowledge. Sawufdfdzw The Senior year is the climax of one's high school days. Relations become closer and the class seems like a family unit. The parties, dances, and ballgames are just a few of the highlights. Even the fads that seem crazy to teachers and parents are quite realistic to Sen- iors. The traditional senior cords are covered with many high school memories such as our undefeated Mid-State Conference Football Champs. But above all other symbols, seen on each and every cord is the class motto, MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING . As guest of honor at Helen Collins' party in August, Phil learned many of the customs of American teenagers. Among the various activities that Phil entered were, serving as Parliamentarian of Spanish Club, at- tending Purdue Legislature, playing the trumpet in the band, and speaking at various organizations including the DCTA. Although we are dedicating only these two pages to you, Phil, we wish to thank you for introducing new ideas and customs into our way of life. We wish you all the success and happiness possible in the years to come. Besides being eligible for many new classes, the Juniors have to remember the price of pop- ' sickles and how to balance a rack of sparkling cokes. With their introduction at the annual Freshman Reception, the Freshmen are officially welcomed into high school. The Freshman year could best be described as a year of firsts . It is the first year that the freshmen are eligible for many clubs and also the first year that they are represented in the Student Council. Gaining knowledge and experience as they go, the Freshmen soon become ready to meet the new and sometimes trying experiences and problems of school like with an assurance that they, too, will fulfill thei goals. 74 7'fwm, a, 7cwtq, and Walter Anderson Mike Arnold Mike Barber Marcia Bell Ron Carpenter Marcia Carter Steve Carter John Catellier Claudia Caylor David Chalfant Denny Chandler Lynne Chapman Bob Clark Tom Clark Lee Comer Lawrence Cox Steve Crouch P Louise Cummins Bob Deeb Jim Dever Dianne Dinsmore Rose Ellen Disney Ronnie Dollens Diane Eggleston Margie Elsbury Sue Fritsche Sue Furry Paulette Gill Diana Gipson Steve Haas .
