D spent in Danville High School. The class of 194-9 takes great pleasure in recalling on the following pages school ' ' ' ' ' ' ns and personalities which occurred ZKUXIUC5,0T2'2ll1lZflfl0 , and existed in this eventful year. But this annual also represents the ending of the sen- ior class of 1948. lt reviews the final memories which the class will take with them. But these memories are the fondest that any group could hope to have. The ath- letic events, the school social functions, the class plays, the competitive contests and even the classes have blended together forming a lasting impression of Danville High School. The friendships gained and the association with the administrators and faculty are unforgettable. All of these facts, however, will become apparent to the reader if he has a deep appreciation for the good times any group can experience if the effort is put forth. AIJMlNlS'l'RA'l'lUN Rlclvin l. This friendly spirit is partially created through giving each under-classman a big sister. This tends also to unite the upper and lower classes in school as well as social activities. A girl automatically becomes a member of the club when she enters Danville High School. The women faculty members are in the club given to the girls a better chance to become more acquainted with their teachers. The Girls' Club, through the assistance of the student body provided food and clothing for needy families twice this school year. This organization earned their funds for the year through a successful magazine sale. The annual social functions included a fall Weiner roast, group parties, a Christmas party, and a spring banquet. The group is sponsored by bliss Margaret Scearce, assisted by lllrs. Edward Stevenson. The officers for this year were as follows: President , ,.f.7Y,,mf...Y.. nf.. Loueen was crowned Bliss Mistletoe of 1947 by Bob, King of WVinter , at the Christmas Dance. Outstanding for their terrific personalities. XVhat more could a senior class want???? Starting the year off with a bang the Student Council sponsored the first home-coming of ll. H. S. The seniors were as proud as a new papa ot their spider web in the parade but then the whole student body' went into the parade with everything, from the band to the queen for the day. As home-coming queens they don't come any cuter than lnabelle, strictly the rage of the page, the jewel of the school. She was crowned by popular Jim Hedge, captain of the victorious football team, at the Pig-Skin Prom. Definitely a night to remember! l XVhat those clever seniors couldn't think of to do??? The Freshman-Senior Convo, during Freshman lnitia- tion, proved to be positively a panic. The seniors cast aside their dignity, for one morning, to mimic the greenies in a class. just who had the most fun is undecided the freshmen or the seniors! But those struggling freshies meet this witty chal- lenge with a deadly' style show plus other side-shows that caused no end of laughter. Rough initiation had not dampened their spirits and a hilarious time was had by all. -lust on general principles each freshman hoy took a speedy trip through the paddling machine. Oh the woes of a freshie . It was douhted whether life would he happy and normal for many of the victims hut it is a pleasure to announce that all freshmen are now doing as well as can he expected. The hest was saved until the last! The lfreshman Reception, the hig formal occasion in the fall, was held in honor of all those who had suffered, though not in vain. 'l'he seniors, as hosts for the evening, provided the mellow music, tasty refreshments, and an unforgettahle evening for each deserving freshman. The fun was just beginning - - even on the hig night ot the dance the seniors had a humorous program in which different guilty freshmen were tried for hlunders only greenies could enact. All cases were dismissed and sentences were suspended as the evening made way for higger and hetter things. Following or the school calendar was the super Halloween party. No signs of ghosts or gohhlins were at this festive party. The vaudeville, involving high school talent only, was just one among many of the entertain- ments for the merry evening. 'l'here's just no husiness like show husinessl l 'liruly Rastus was at his hestl YVhat a show that minstrel was. The Halloween party just couldn't have been a success without it. lt's the crazy hut wonderful things like this that have made this year one of the very hest. BMI U M glltlilll Une of the hi-lights of the foothall season was the ban- quet, given in honor of Danville High School and Can- terbury' College-'s gridiron teams and their coaches. Speaking of enthusiasm these three cute girls were right hehind their team all the way through the season. lt's real talent when just three girls can create the pep and spirit which they did. Left to right: Mary Xlargaret Hales, Carol Field, Donna Buchanan. 'luwas but five nights before Christmas and - - yes anoth- er dance. This year the Christmas dance was sponsored by the ambitious seniors. The alums came back to be re- assured that D. H. S. was still the same old school that they had left. And almost the entire student body turn- ed out to show them a wonderful evening. The mistle- toe which was used for decoration in numerous places furnished much of the entertainment. Truly a gay af- fair! l Can you imagine having a group of such fine people all in one little picture i' You all remember Bob and lllarilyn from last year and just look, ,,iXlrs. lwitchell, lylr. Nei- meyer and lllr. and lNIrs. Thompson. Guess you know who rates and why not??? It couldn't have happened to two nicer kids -- yes lnabelle and John. Just think all these and many more, all at the Christmas dance. 'llherm-'s no doubt about it that the junior play cast should again be congratulated on their successful play. Humor, excitement and romance all mingled together making for a very entertaining production. These plays are just one worry after another but they're really worth the effort don't you think so?? XVhat could be more proper than to sneak in a snap of the Tom-Tom staff? If no one else appreciates the 1948 year book, it's a sure thing this group will. There is just one small shame about the staff, ,too many ideas and plans for such a limited length of space and time! Such is life! Clean-up weeks were frequent., ...but still these two men's work and toil was never ending. It canlt be hoped that this last year proved to be as happy for them as for the student body and with the new addition next year life will become, no doubt, more bitter. Yet to these men the students owe their thanks for the clean and neat conditions in which we exist. Our janitors are lNIr. Had- ley and lllr.
