In Danville, we flocked to McDonald's, invaded Burger King, and cruised to the corner of Jackson and Main. Cruising was voted the number one weekend activity, but outside those three nights of bliss, cruising changed to running errands or a reason to get out of the house. If you drove just to get out, chances are you noticed a few changes in Danville. The main changes centered around local hospitals. Both St. Elizabeth and Lakeview underwent construction to add new facilities and to receive a general facelift . While they sought improvements. Carle Clinic of Champaign-Urbana sought extension in Danville. Opportunities in the forms of a prison and Towne Center gave Danville an optimistic look at the future economy. Inside the district, teachers feared losing their jobs, valuable programs were threatened to be cut, and two schools' doors were permanently closed. Fairchild and Roselawn Elementaries joined the fates of Jackson, Collett, and Oaklawn schools. The closings were especially sad to the alumni of the schools.
