Dedication Frances Watkins Miss Frances Watkins' influence on the students of D. H.S. has spanned four decades. She began teaching in September of 1935 in room 246, now renumbered as room 245. She taught English for two years and then switched to history and social science. In 1968 Miss Watkins was made the head of the department. In her undivided attention to the development of the young people in Danville, she has been active as an advisor for Girls Club and as make-up advisor for Dramatic Club. She has also helped to chaperone most of the dances and proms during her career. Classified as a staunch supporter of Viking athletics, she hasn't missed many home football, basketball or baseball games, or the home swimming meets. One of Miss Watkins' greatest attributes is her dedication to the MEDLEY. A high school staff member, she became an assistant advisor and then served as head advisor from 1941 until 1975. During this span of 34 years, she helped over 500 students in the yearbook field and inspired several to go on to other journalistic pursuits. Active in community affairs, she has served this year as a representative on the Vermilion County Bicentennial Commission thus reenforcing her love of history. In this Bicentennial year the MEDLEY staff of 1976 dedicates this yearbook to Miss Frances Watkins, a glorious woman and a truly devoted teacher.... 2
