A most important factor behind winning a game, according to many pep assembly speakers, is the will to winf' Only with the help of our D.H.S. cheer- leaders was the will acquired. Cheerleaders with vim and vigor such as those of '51 had, can put a winning spirit into any team, and liven up the cheering tion as Well. Chosen after try-outs before the members of the Pep Club, the cheerleaders took on the task of urging on our football team, and then were joined during bas- ketball season by the younger members of the group. Leading cheers for the Varsity this year were Phyllis Welch, Faye Norhut, jean Handley, Anne Gibson, and Ronnie XValtemath. Booting for the reserves were Patty Sanks, Carol Barr, and Shirley Garland. In the weekly sessions of student council the leaders of our school met to discuss the current issues most bothersome to the student body. Problems, how- ever, were just a part of their work. They promoted social activity by parties, such as the one after the Sectional tournament and the two All-School parties, Fall Fes- tival and Iinx jubilee. Members also selected the assembly program speakers for the year and took turns introducing them. An interesting project this year was the sanding of the desks in 246, also various homecoming plans. All presidents of school organizations, captains of the athletic teams, class representatives, and editors of publications are members of student council. Honoring D.H.S. at the annual conventions were Charlot Coltz, State first vice-president, and Bill Stuebe, District president-elect. President john Honey led the home council, aided by vice-president Sandra Mergette, secretary Donna Richison, and treasurer Tom Dye. Although the football season ended with Danville winning two and losing seven, the team, hampered hy injuries and in a slightly tougher schedule, earned credit for their fine defensive work and their enthusiastic spirit.
