The Clarion '54 Class Prophecy A blue light gleams over the quiet laboratory as the figures of two scientists bend over their work. One speaks, Is it finished, doctor? Yes, it is finished. Since 1954 we've been working on this invention, and finally after ten years we have finished the greatest invention ever known to the world. We have succeeded in inventing a machine that looks into the present. Now we are ready for the final test. We shall look into the present life of our classmates of 1954. The picture is coming in clear and here is how we see them. Ioanne Banbury with the help of Mr. Skeen is running a skiing farm outside Mount Vernon, while on the Miller's big dairy farm we see Helen Miller fthe former Helen Durbinj with her little Millers going out to help Charles milk. Charles Miller has just received 51,000 on his prize heifer which Helen has helped him raise. A number of our classmates have become well-known celebrities. Marilyn Baugher, famous jitterbug dancer, is opening a jitterbug dancing class in Danville. Cameron Drake is a drum major in an all girls' band and Larry Greer is the pitcher for the Cleveland Indians. While Larry is out on the mound, we see little Larry watching his great father. Karol Sloan, now a famous movie star Cshe has taken Marilyn Monroe's placej is throwing a big party at her twenty-room house. In a different line of entertainment, Dalene Workman is the nation's foremost concert pianist with her husband, Carroll, acting as her agent. Eugene Woods is now playing his trumpet with Tommy Dorsey's Band. We hear he can play a mean tune. In still another world of entertainment, we see lim Emmert, known to most people as the Fearless Mite, as one of the most popular wrestlers today. We also see lean Schisler, who is one of the country's best known comedians. She has just finished her latest movie with her well-known partner, Ierry Lewis. The name of the movie is, Raising Rice. Another group of our classmates have chosen a career as business people, and some have become very wealthy and well-known. Paul O'Donnell and his lovely wife Fern are now owners and operators of a reducing salon, and Fern CHainsj in her free time has taken over the Patty Page Show, and is one of the top singers today. Don Laughery is one of the richest men in the world. He's the great fur tycoon. Don got his start by trapping and skinning his own coon. Another Mr. Big is Earl Mickley, who is a famous zipper manufacturer. He has now completed his latest model, a sure-shut zipper, and is making millions. Dorothy Lybarger has also been successful. She has a 1,000 acre goat farm in Florida. Nancy Durbin is the owner of the famous Nan's Shop, a hat and jewelry store in Loudonville. Ioe Weber who has always liked to invent things, has now completed his miracle drug which makes people grow short. While Ioe is doing his favorite work another class- mate has succeeded in accomplishing great honors. This is Warren Myers. Warren's secret ambition has come true and he is now one of Uncle Sam's greatest jet pilots. In Danville, since Clarence Mizer has retired, his son-in-law, Conard Nyhart, is the new proprietor of Mizer's Dairy Bar. The rest of the class have chosen to be either teachers or owners of public institutions or last but not least, the holy bonds of matrimony. Doris Body, with the help of Lloyd, is running an old maids' home south of Danville, while Kathleen Finan is in charge of the Girls' Industrial School at Delaware. Nola Smail attended four years of college at Ashland, and then returned to Danville where she is now the Home Economics teacher at good ol' Danville High. One CContinued on page 66D Page Twenty-four
