LEARNING NEW THINGS EVERY DAY The DACC Child Development Center is licensed by the State of Illinois to provide care for 65 chil- dren, ages 2-5. It serves as a Lab School for the early Childhood Education curriculum. Pupils at- tending are children of DACC students, those employed at the Veterans Administration Hospi- tal, and the community at large. The center is in operation each school day from 6:45 a.m. -4:45 p.m.. The daily schedule includes many activities such as large and small group teachings are adapt- ed to the child ' s age, and struc- tured to each child ' s educational capacity. Hill Coach. « CROSS COUNTRY 41 C VOLLEYBALL It was not easy to put together a team for the 1982 Volleyball season at Danville Area Community College. It is a difficult task to attract students away from the demands oftheir studies and jobs and onto the courts two hours a day — everyday. Our disappointing record of 9 wins and 17 losses, 2 wins, and 5 losses in conference play, was not an indication of the abilities of our players. The 1982 Volleyball should be recommended for the sacrifices they had to make to play a sport that they love. BACK ROW: Shelia Crawley, Patty Watson, Tina Chosmacki, Julie Penicook, Coach Judy Laker. Sheila Crawley 5 ' 7V2 Spiker Rossville-Alvin, Sophomore Our strongest hitter and a good blocker. Honorable mention to the All-Conference team. Tina Chojnacki 5 ' 7 Setter Spiker Pulaski High (Milwaukee, Wis.), Freshman. A well-rounded player who can set as well as hit. She is an outstanding server who led the team in points scored and ace serves. Dee Gonzalez 5 ' 2 Setter Rossville-Alvin, Sophomore Our most aggressive player on the floor. She was willing to sacrifice all to keep the ball in play. Kalina Ingham 5 ' 3 Defensive Back Georgetown, Sophomore Our best defensive player who subsitituted in the back line to cover the hard hit spikes. Paula Ingham 5 ' 1 Setter Georgetown, Freshman A very good setter that led a major role in our offensive attack; she was also our second leading server. Julie Penicook 5 ' 6V2 spiker Wellington, Freshman Hampered by injuries early in the season but who made her contributions to the team. She was a good server who scored fifteen straight points, two of them aces, to defeat our opponent. Patty Watson S ' AVz spiker hitter Bismarck-Henning, Sophomore Our only natural hitting left-hander and a positive force of our team. She was named to the All-Conference Volleyball team of 1982. Out of nine tournaments, they won three and placed second in two. The team placed second in the Region XXIV Golf Tournament. CASINO NIGHT 73 BLACK HISTORY MONTH OBSERVED Choir Performs Black History month was ob- served this past February with many interesting speeches and various types of entertainment. The kick off program was held on the first Sunday of the month with Dr. Ronald K. Lingle, Presi- dent of DACC, welcoming the crowd. Mr. L. Ernest Blanden, dean of student services, then went on to introduce Iman Bashir All of the American Muslim Mis- sion Center of Danville. Mr. Ali spoke on Academic Excellence and Social Responsibility . Over the next two weeks, five well-respected speakers shared their knowledge and views on the various topics concerning the black community today. These included: Otis Hills- man, executive director of the Vermilion County Citi- zens Action Program, with his talk on Blacks and the Economy , and, Reg Weaver, president of the Illinois Education Association and a Danville native, gave his views in a speech entitled, Black Educa- tor ' s Perspective on American Society . Also includ- ed in the month ' s activities were director and secre- tary-treasurer of the lEA and president of the DACC- EA, gave an excellent presentation of the Introduc- tion to Afro-American Literature , and Wence Cun- ningham, director of the Human Resources Commis- sion in Danville, reassured us with a talk about Affir- mative Action, A Tool to Redress Employment Dis- crumination . The speakers wraped up near the end of the month with Mr. Ali speaking once more on Social Problems and the Black Community . Black History month concluded with a concert giv- en in the DACC theater on the 26th of February. Performing were THE PURDUE BLACK VOICES OF INSPIRATION. The choir, composed of about 70 students, is dedicated to the performance of sacred anthemic hymns by black composers and traditional and contemporary spiritual and gospel music from the black heritage. Quinten Berry shares his views with the audience. 74 BLACK HISTORY MONTH The Agricultural Club of DACC sponsored a Farm City Day on cam- pus, March 16. Agricultural exhibits were displayed in the Technology Building. The Exhibits included a horse shoeing demonstration, farm machin- ery and Agri-Business displays Chil- dren were entertained by a petting zoo and movies. The OH Department, also held and Open House. A thirty-five cent barbeque lunch was served to the public. After lunch, Illinois Director of Agriculture, John L.
