STATE JUNIOR COLLEGE CLASS I APPROVAL AND NORTH CENTRAL ACCREDITATION In the spring of 1966 Danville Junior College received its Junior College Class I approval from the state of Illinois. In the spring of 1967 Danville Junior College received its North Central Accreditation. In this year, it separated from District 118 and became a separate district, District 507. IN APPRECIATION The CHRONICLE dedicates Volume 10 to the 25th Anniversary of Danville Junior College. In so doing, it dedicates this volume to Presi- dent Mary Miller. Although many people played a role in bringing Danville Junior College into being and bringing about its expansion in these 25 years, it is doubtful whether there would be a D. J. C. today had it not been for someone who dedicated a lifetime to its being. That person is President Mary Miller. Danville Junior College began as an extension center for the University of Illinois in the Vet- erans ' Education Program after World War II, in 1946. Through the efforts of Miss Mary Miller it continued after this program was dis- continued. Until June, 1965, Danville Junior College was housed in Danville High School. Through Miss Miller ' s efforts seven buildings and a campus were obtained from the Veterans ' Administration in Washington, D.C. Above Miss Miller speaks at the ceremonies inwhichD.J.C. received the deed to this property-Labor Day, 1966-from Mr. John Gleason, head of Veterans ' Administration in the nation ' s capital. The speaker at these ceremonies was Senator Paul Douglas. 6

DEED TO BUILDING 17-July 25, 1969 Another dream of President Mary Miller came true when Danville Junior College received the deed for the building that is now Danville Junior College ' s Student Center. It was originally Veterans Administration ' s Building 17. Above, at the deeding ceremonies, Mr. R. Dale Wilson, regional representative for the federal Depart- ment of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), presents the deed to Mr. Elmer Smith, chair- man of Junior College District 507 (Danville College). Witnessing the presentation are Mr. Marvin A. Chapman, director of the Veterans Administration Hospital; President Mary Miller; and Congressman Leslie C. Arends, Republican from Melvin. 8
